The hostel also runs a lot on trust, which I loved. It's mostly unstaffed during the day, with staff showing up later in the afternoon/evening, and somehow the whole place still runs flawlessly because everyone treats it well. I vastly prefer a hostel to a hotel, even when it comes to a conference. So when my outdoor writer's conference had their event downtown I booked The Crash Pad. I got a mile-long ruck to and from the event every day, a solid sleep each night for far, far less money, and I meet a slew of interesting people which is part and parcel of hostel life. Crashpad is well-run, Will was able to let me in early from his remote location so that I didn't cook in the midday sun, and everything you need is right there. Good hostels are hard to find; this one has all the amenities. It's super clean, concerned about sustainability and even gives you ear plugs for those times when people are getting enthusiastic next door. I stayed in room J, a double bunk upstairs. Great place to stay! The kitchen and living room/lobby area is really nice to spend downtime. Lots of clean linens/towels/extra pollowd. Bathrooms and showers were clean. Beds were nice, only comment would be they probably need another beam for the full sized top bunk. It had a stiffening plate but was still sagging with one person up there, two would make me nervous.
