The Calumet

I was a bit nervous staying in a privately owned property and a motel. I had never stayed in a motel, they just always creeped me out. Also, I was always nervous about staying at properties that were privately owned and not part of a chain that sets cleanliness standards. I was pleasantly surprised at my first motel stay. The Calumet Motel, although dated in style, was very clean and maintained. Also, the owner and housekeeper were very friendly and helpful. Our room had a queen bed, futon couch, kitchen table, stove, refrigerator, microwave, and kitchen sink. I definitely recommend staying at this location if you are traveling to the 1000 Islands. It is a great location and only a 4 block walk into "downtown" Clayton, NY.

Our stay here was great. Our room was nice and cool when we got back and was just what we needed after a very hot day. The new owner Shawn is great! And we are looking forward to the upcoming renovations and updates.

The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. I liked the flooring for the bathroom. Shawn is very nice and helpful. I asked for extra blankets and it was no problem.

This is a great place, many updates and more to come. Chatted with the owner who said he purchased three years ago and has been updating continually since. Unfortunate that the 1 star reviews are here as they are before the current owner and are not a accurate representation of how nice of a place this is.

We love looking at Calumet island. Right across from downtown Clayton. Go to the Thousand Island Museum on James Street for lots of history about the island. Fascinating!
