The Brothers' Place

We stayed here the week of the Beaver Island Music Festival in July! If you want to get away from the stress in your life, I highly recommend this place! The porch was my favorite spot where I'd rock slowly in a chair while a gentle breeze blew in from outside. And yes, I agree the breakfast was more than sufficient, and (minor downside) the rooms are a little small.....but this place is full of history! Finally, it was most importantly the host that seemed to make it her goal to include you in on discussions with other guest as if you were part of an extended family! Thank you for the wonderful experience!

Great proprietor, old wooden lodge, felt like a lodge from the 50's. Not fancy but fully adequate. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. |It was a retreat for Catholic Christian Brothers for a month of prayer before making their vows. |Small rooms, wooden floors, decent beds, one shower room with stalls (girls put a chair in front of the curtain to tells guys it's being used!). Shared bathrooms, one for girls the other guys. Wonderful screened in porch the length of the building with lots of seating and a swing. Two large comfortable lounges. A dining room with ample continental breakfast provided. Close enough to walk to town, but a shuttle is available. |Reminds me of my youth going to northern Wisconsin. Happy days then and now.

My husband & I stayed at the Brother's Place for a weekend in mid-August in 2011. It was not our first choice, but we ended up staying there because it was Homecoming Weekend and we didn't have any other choice as everything else was booked up. We ended up loving it! Its definitely not for the person looking for a 5-star hotel - theres no TV's in the rooms or even bathrooms for that matter - but if you are looking for a rustic and authentic Beaver Island feel, this is the place for you. A group of friends flew down to Beaver Island and stayed at The Brothers Place during the music festival. I'll begin by noting that this is a family owned business and it shows. The family is incredibly friendly and knows how to make everyone comfortable. As the other review (at time of writing) mentioned, the setup is much like a dorm. Most rooms have a bed and a small desk - that's it. Bathrooms are communal. The cost is very, very low for each of us and it was nice for everyone to have a room. Anything the hosts could possibly do they did for us. Breakfast, bicycles, bags, rides to the music festival. I truly felt like I was a guest in their home. Such wonderful people. A fantastic place to stay and enjoy the Island. Teri has created a beautiful space. Continental Breakfast is available and a great way to start the day. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Fun themes throughout. As a family, we shared the bathroom. Teri is very conscious of cleanliness. VERY close, walking distance to town. Restaurants are close by as well.
