Beaver Island Lodge - Beaver Island, Lake Michigan

Excellent lodge for chasing views and photos of the Northern Lights and the Milky Way! Through research on dark sky locations, I found Beaver Island Lodge with some of the best sightlines for a chance to experience and photograph the Northern Lights in the US. Parts of Beaver Island in 2024 were designated as an Unesco International Dark Sky Sanctuary. You are very close to that area at the lodge. The lodge rooms face north with many rooms having panoramic Lake Michigan views, which is the best perspective for photographers. Their private beach provides an excellent location for viewing and night sky photography, as well as the nearby Font Lake. The Sunset restaurant has excellent food too. We came here for drinks and to watch the sunset. Lonnie served up some great drinks and was very attentive to us. As always when we are visiting new places, we want to ask the locals about some history and what to do. Liam stepped up and spent almost an hour with us talking about the history of the island, his upbringing, how the locals live, and what to visit while we are on the island. We were ecstatic and appreciative of his time and information! We couldn’t be more happy about the time both of Lonnie and Liam spent with us on a busy nite.

Cute place, great location, decent rooms, restaurant is great. Staff is super friendly and awesome. But unfortunately our room smells of rotten eggs! The out dated hot water heater leaks the nasty natural gas rotten egg smell out when running hot water in shower and faucet. Have to open windows and run a fan every day.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Beaver Island Lodge and it was amazing! It was so fun to rent out every room in the lodge with our friends. It rained the entire day of our wedding and the beaver island lodge staff helped in every way. Can’t beat the views of Lake Michigan and the staff, especially Han, TJ, Eric and Chef Jason. Thank you all for making our wedding weekend so special!

I recently stayed at the Beaver Island Lodge for the 4th summer in a row, and will be back. This is truly a place to relax and unwind, both in terms of the island overall and the lodge. The rooms are cozy, comfortable, and so clean. The lodge managers, TJ and Johan, are welcoming and always willing to answer questions about the island. Although the lodge is lovely exactly as it is, improvements are made each year without sacrificing the character of the hotel. I hope this place never really changes much. Thank you for another wonderful stay.
