The Arco Hotel Midtown Village, Sonder

they offered luggage lockers for guests coming into town prior to check in time, which was convenient. the check-in process was fairly simple, all contact free and done remotely through an app, codes provided for building and room access. there are no on-site staff in the event of issues with check-in, but we didn’t have any problems with that. HOWEVER!! when we checked into our room, we were first hit with a fresh wave of marijuana, as if someone hotboxed in our room an hour prior. we also found that the door handle to the bathroom was missing, and our sink did not drain. the shower had two side by side shower heads that sprayed water in two different directions, with less than ideal water pressure. Basic rooms in an unstaffed, tired building that’s been half-heartedly updated. There is no front desk and seemingly no onsite staff. Genuinely not sure how you’d get in if your phone gets lost, stolen, or dies. You will hear everything that happens on the street, bring earplugs. Pros: comfortable bed, functional temperature control, plenty of outlets/extension cord Cons: no hot water in the shower, shower leaked into the bathroom somehow, no cable TV - only Roku, unusual checkin process that requires you to download an app and submit your drivers license on a website. Plenty of dirt visible in the corners and a questionable floor rug.

If there were a zero rating, I would give it. I booked this hotel 7 months ago and prepaid because I needed to stay for a 3-day concert, but my reservation was cancelled 1 hour before check-in due to overbooking. I had already received the keypad code the day before, but when I arrived, the keypad did not work. Marriott customer service told me that the original two nights could not be rebooked due to overbooking, but one night was available at a higher price, so I booked it. I received the confirmation email, completed identity verification with my driver’s license and facial recognition, yet the keypad was not provided. On Sunday evening Nov 9th we got an email that Sonder and Marriott did not renew their license and thus we were to vacate the hotel immediately. We were given a MAX time of 9:00 AM Monday morning to be out or lose access to the building and our room. We're barely on our second day of our trip and literally getting kicked out of our hotel. We called the Sonder customer service number listed at multiple locations in the building and got no response from anyone. We downloaded the Sonder app to "live chat with an agent" and still no response from someone. Marriott won't return our calls and when we call them they have a automated message stating that Sonder is no longer monitoring this line and gives you a different 1-800 number than all the other numbers listed at the hotel. Do not stay here. -The street noise was extremely loud all night. Earplugs barely helped it was so loud. -The bathroom was completely unheated and freezing. -The room was also really cold but after a very long wait the heat finally made the room warm enough that we weren't shivering if we took our coats off. -The water pressure in the shower was low. -The coffee machine was broken. - The venetian blinds controls were broken.
