Sunset Inn Resort

Thanksgiving 2025 marks the second time we’ve gathered more than 40 relatives from 10 different states for a weekend of great food, fun games, important connections and even book clubs. The Sunset Inn Resort has become our Destination for this important reunion, one that started in 2006 by our “Grandpa the Great,” a gift that he gave to his Big Ten. He laid the foundation for his descendants to have the opportunity to forge lifelong friendships over campfires, meals and glasses of wine. An event that started in Illinois has found its forever home at the Sunset Inn Resort. Went there in early August. The ac didn’t work in the bedroom and the owners Mindy and Will didn’t fix it and it needed to be replaced. They knew this a week prior to our arrival. There were plenty of ants in the kitchen. The jet ski dock was in disarray and needed repair. The pool chairs and loungers were disgusting. We have gone there the prior 2 years and the property has been deteriorating. No one present to monitor the unruly kids that needed to be supervised because of there age. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

What an amazing place. It has a pool, playground (within view of pool) swim dock, fire pit, rental boat slips, water front cabins with a peaceful view. There is this beautiful building I believe is for larger events. Perfect for family gatherings or a quiet weekend. They do not offer towels.. bring a bath & beach towel for each person, and hand towels for the kitchen/bathroom areas.

Best place to stay on the lake! Great location for just sitting and watching all the lake activity from your own deck or spending time on the swim dock. There are roomy cabins, a large pool, hot tub and a wonderful, friendly, accommodating family making sure your stay is perfect. You really can’t ask for more! This is our 35th year going to the resort and it just keeps getting better and better!
