Sun Mountain Lodge

It honestly pains me to leave this review because I had such high expectations after reading so many positive reviews before our stay. We chose Sun Mountain Lodge for our honeymoon trip in August, which made the experience even more disappointing. Check-in was seamless and the staff at the front desk were kind and efficient. The rooms were clean, and the views were absolutely stunning! Truly the highlight of the property. Unfortunately, our experience at the hotel restaurant was extremely disappointing. There were an overwhelming number of flies. I’m not exaggerating when I say it felt like hundreds. At one point, I had to slam my menu shut to kill one that landed on it. It made it very difficult to enjoy our meal. On top of that, the food itself was subpar. I’d rate it maybe a 1/5. It w

Positive: It has a very relaxed vibe and a beautiful view. Negative: We need a stopover for our North Cascades hiking trip. It takes 20 more minutes to reach this hotel after arriving in Winthrop. The location is very secluded.

A very enjoyable stay. We had a room with a fireplace, balcony and a fabulous view. Very comfortable room. The sunset views against the mountain backdrop - fabulous. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant and lounge was good. We were visiting the area to hike the Northern Cascades National Park. The drive from the lodge to the park took between 30 & 45 minutes but was a pleasant drive with little traffic. Based on our experience, we highly recommend Sun Mountain Lodge when visiting this area.

Jetted tub blew out chunks of something rusty looking while in it. And the floors in the main lodge common areas look like they have never seen a vacuum so that was gross. Otherwise the views were gorgeous and the restaurant was good and staff was helpful and friendly. It’s a cool place just expected more cleanliness from a resort.

If you love great lodges of the west, such as Glacier NP lodges, or Timberline on Mt Hood, you will love this place! The craftsmanship of the building is inspiring and the many lounge, family and dining spaces gave our family an ability to all choose their own hang out spots. The dining options are delicious and were served with warm hospitality. Our favorite thing was having bison chilli in the bar area, which had a knockout spectacular view of the Methow Valley, and onward to the North Cascades. The elevation and surrounding nature set you up to xcountry ski right from the lodge. If you are looking for a place where you are on top of the world, this is the spot!
