SpringHill Suites by Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront

I arrived around 9pm on a Saturday night for a one night stay. I had a spacious 1 bedroom hotel room. The hotel has a bar/eatery along with indoor pool and fitness center. Parking is complementary. Check in was smooth and easy. Breakfast had a large variety and it was delicious. The only issue I had was that my door wouldn’t close from the outside due to something being wrong with the lock. Maintenance fixed the issue while we were away, thankfully! I liked that the hotel was on the beach and I had a balcony. I would definitely return!

Positive: Best things about this hotel is the location, friendly & courteous staff & the well stocked & tasty breakfast buffet. The fact of having (2) pools is awesome and a hot tub! Also, We could see Dolphins in the ocean from off our balcony! Very COOL! Negative: The pool inside had hair floating around in it and the water was very foggy that you couldn't see the bottom. Gave me the impression it wasn't very clean water. Elevators, while they were fast, they were missing the handles and had stains on the floors.

This is the second year in a row I’ve had the same issue with this property, and at this point it’s clearly not an accident. I’m a Marriott Bonvoy member with one of the higher status levels, and I booked this stay through Marriott’s website using the Member Flexible Rate. This rate is more expensive than prepaid options specifically because you are paying for flexibility—the ability to cancel within the stated window with no advance charges, and to be charged at check-in, not months ahead of time. Last year, roughly three months before my stay, the hotel charged approximately 75% of the total reservation without authorization. We checked in and got into our room early. We were upgraded to a room with a huge balcony and we loved it. Bed was comfortable and there was a separate sitting area and "kitchen" area. There was not enough storage for clothing or toiletries. The shower was ok. The free breakfast was so sufficient. Ate lunch at the bar one day, and the bartender was very unfriendly to the point of almost rude. The fire pit outside the dining area wasn't working which was very disappointing. The outdoor pool was across the street, not really on the property. All in all we would stay again because it's in a good location.

I reserved three rooms . They were a Christmas present for 6 grandchildren. Severe looking forward to use of the pool and boardwalk . The boardwalk worked out fine even though it was only 25 degrees. The problem was, we never got our rooms! They kept saying they couldn’t reach housekeeping! And when we finally left, there were no apologies , in fact they did not care at all that we were walking out. Front desk manager could not have been more rude to us. I can’t imagine how they stay in business with this kind of treatment. How can you not honor a reservation and not care one bit!! It was infuriating. The Holiday Inn just down the street bent over backwards to make our stay amazing. And I have called the hotel manager 4 times and left messages for him. He never returned my call. Obviously
