I hesitate to ever leave a 1 star review, the public rating is important for businesses. However, the BED BUGS need to be addressed. I was without a doubt mauled by BED BUGS with too many bites to count. How am I positive? I have had bed bugs in a past and those who also have know there is a sort of trauma involved with it. Hours spent researching the signs (most obvious being the stains and bite patterns), losing sleep knowing you're about to be a meal and never really knowing if the treatment worked or if they are gone for good. This hotel has many symptoms of neglect, but dirty carpet and musty air is serviceable. I am scared nothing will be done about the bed bugs, based on the response from the staff. I would definitely have to say this was not up to the par of the other Sonestas that I’ve stayed at before. Luckily we were only in the room for about six hours total we just needed someplace lay our head because we had been at the hospital all day with a family member. The front desk clerk was nice. He wasn’t really too friendly, but he was nice. There was a smell once you got in the hallway and we cannot figure out what it was. Once we got in the elevator, you can tell that the carpet inside elevator needed to be changed. The smell was so bad my roommate almost puked while we were in the elevator. Once we got to our floor on the third floor, the smell continued all the way down the hall.|In our room it was clean however some of the furnishings were torn and ripped as well as the curtain

Reviewed January 2026. This hotel is Durham's Overlook Hotel (from the Shining). Hopefully, based off other reviews, they will start to make serious changes. I don't understand how they have such a high rating. Check-in: No complaints, it was easy. My co-worker and I were booked to stay here for a longer stay, 6 days and 5 nights. Lobby: First appearance, looks nice - lots of seating, a fire place, what looks like a little restaurant area. They have one of those ultrasonic essential oil diffusers (that put out a stream of mist mixed with essential oils) to cover the bizarre smells that you will encounter through out the hotel. Room #1: We always do a quick check of the room before we get settled in - look in the beds, around the room, etc. We found lots of hair and even crumbs in the be

Positive: Close to grocery and restaurants, public transport. Overall a quiet hotel to get rested while getting tasks completed. The building is maintained and premises kept clean. Good to have facility to wash clothes. Guest services were responsive. Negative: I like hotels with even a small breakfast (danishes or even toast with butter/jelly/peanut butter and coffee, tea, juice), but the price was very good without this. Also, with the transitions in many hotels in the last several years, I understand.

I saw other reviews about bed bugs but I gave it a try .. the room smelled like cleaner and looked great when we got there .. UNTIL we woke up with bites all over our legs and butt .. the dude downstairs offered us another room. He was nice as were all the staff .. but the bed bugs r real. I drove 3 hours for Valentine’s Day to get ate up by bed bugs definitely not da kinda ate up I was tryna get , lol.. nice staff nice hotel it jus has bed bugs unfortunately..
