Sonesta Essential Hotels Baton Rouge Airport

Review: My stay at Sonesta Essentials Baton Rouge Airport was terrifying and unacceptable. Upon entering, the odor of marijuana smoke, urine, and feces was overwhelming and immediately made me worry about hygiene and safety. The floors throughout the common areas and hallways were dirty, and the back entrance had no functioning lock, which felt like a serious security risk. Inside the room, the situation only deteriorated. The sheets had visible stains, and within minutes of settling in, a large rat ran across the room and into the bathroom. This is not what I expect from a hotel, especially one advertising “Essential” quality. Positive: The front desk agent that checked me in was really nice and pleasant and when I called down to complain about the sheets being stained and having blunt/cigarette burns in them, she offered to personally bring me new sheets right away. Negative: The crowd of addicts hanging outside, stained/destroyed bedding, staff looked unprofessional dressed in street clothes, room poorly cleaned, smoke detector missing in room 204, horrible smoke smell, no towels in room, linen stained, everything was bad!

Well this hotel would be good....if! We stayed there on 25 October and thought this would be OK after looking at the pictures, which are very deceiving. The problem with this hotel is it is just plain dirty. The room itself was not clean that well. Something on the dresser, TV Stand was broken, Refrigerator in the freezer was no unthawed and had some spill on the ice in it. Stains on the walls and floors. The sheets have been reused, so they have old stains and funk. Leaving wanted some Ice from the ice machine and it was just plain nasty as well. Some would say "Why did you stay". Simple answer is that I had booked this with no hope of getting my money back. Other hotels in the area were $300+. Do your best not to stay here unless you are into the funk.

If I could leave zero stars I would. The breakfast was stale bread and cereal with sour smelling milk. The cleanliness was absolutely disgusting and unacceptable! When asked for a refund so I could stay somewhere else, I was told they couldn’t at night and that I needed to wait till morning. When I asked this morning, they told me a member from management would reach out. The bedding had stains, smelled of cigarettes, I saw a ROACH!! I will be contacting the Louisiana Department of Health and also Consumer Services regarding this issue!

Let’s start here — this was hands down the worst hotel my husband and I have ever stayed in. The floors were dirty, the toilet had stains, there were stains on the walls and headboard, and the paint job was terrible. There was even a roach crawling on the TV. Hotels are usually cold, but even with the air set to 62 on high, the room was extremely hot. I woke up sweating in my sleep. Then at 9:50 a.m., someone knocked on our door asking if we were staying another night. That has never happened to us before. We told her no, we were checking out at 11 a.m. If you have a little bit more money go to somewhere nice, we won’t ever see that place again
