Shell Island Resort

We came down to Wrightsville Beach on the spur of the moment. Decided to stay at Shell Island for our anniversary. Due to the promo we were able to get a king deluxe room. There wasn't anything deluxe. It was very minimalistic. Overall the hotel was comfortable but definitely showing its age. The location is amazing being secluded at the end of the island. Most of the fixtures are outdated and need to be replaced. We even had door knobs falling off. We know the hotel is getting ready for the season with a lot of maintenance going on. However, it would have been nice if we had had our balcony furniture. All in all, it's a nice hotel with the location being its best quality.

Just got home from one night stay with my wife at the Shell Island Resort, very disappointed ... I've been there 18 years ago during a team building dinner with a prestigious company in Wilmington that I used to work for ... I was very impressed at the time, and I told myself that I would definitely come and stay there when I got the opportunity to visit ... there we were on December 12th (2025), very disappointed ... it is now an rundown hotel (although they call it resort, hahaha) ... such a great location, but the place is old and our room was filthy (the sofa was filled with dog's hair and stuff ... shower was very poor, curtains were very dirty, etc. ... although they were repainting the outside at this time, but that would not be enough... definitely need a complete renovation to be

Positive: The staff were friendly and accommodating. They did everything u would expect to make your stay great . The view was awesome. The room beat our expectations ( would liked more than a bag a coffee , cream sugar and tea would of made it better) Negative: The restaurant was low tier being a resort. Out of all kinds of items. Seamed they should have two bartenders at the tiki bar for the needs of the guests & the restaurant food was mid once you figured out what they had.

We stayed two nights in early March in a king suite. The view from the room was amazing! Unfortunately, that's about where the praise ends. The furniture was dated and shabby. The sofa had significant stains on both arm rests. The bathroom had hair on the floor and in the tub, as well was on the bedroom throw pillows. After walking around the living room/kitchen area we both noticed that the soles of our feet were black. The wine glasses were filthy. We were given a packet of ground coffee but no filters so we had to use a paper towel (it actually worked!). The restaurant was closed during our stay due to low occupancy. Be sure to wear shoes when you walk to the beach as the boardwalk is nothing but splinters.

We booked Shell Island for our wedding venue. The location is AMAZING. They have a beautiful space for a wedding, and we could not have be happier to celebrate our special day there. We love that all the rooms are ocean front rooms. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We will be coming back yearly to celebrate our anniversary.
