This campground is definitely different from what I’m used to in the high Sierras of California. Spots are pretty close and fires aren’t allowed so no fire pits. However, I thought it was absolutely beautiful. I used it as an overnight stop on a cross-country roadtrip instead of getting a hotel. I have a whole setup in the back of my truck and site 28 was perfect for this. 28 is a longer, pull-through style drive that was pretty level and close to the restrooms.
Road to the campground is spectacular but a little scary. Camp spots are pretty close together, but the views from B loop are beautiful. Some traffic noise from the town WAY below. We were near a group of very rowdy kids. School trip? But once they were quiet the place was fairly peaceful. Bathrooms are clean!
As far as campgrounds go, it's a good one. Pretty scenic, with some lookouts nearby, the toilet block was ok, and some sites like mine are pretty private. You need some sturdy tent pegs though, as the soil is very hard, I bent all my aluminium pegs and had to use big rocks to hold my tent. People complain about the bugs, but it's nice, it reminded me of the South of France (crickets).
This campground is definitely different from what we usually go to. It is at a beautiful height with a view of the valley and the surrounding scenery. The sites are quite close and the fire pits are only in prepared charcoal grill stands. However, I found it absolutely beautiful in the Colorado National Monument. The driveway is asphalt, no holes. It has flushing toilets, drinking water, and garbage disposal tables. Amazing hikes to the monuments.
The campground itself was very nice. Bathrooms relatively clean. Spots were pretty flat and nice. The reason the campground gets 3 stars is because the people who go here are extremely rude and if you’re looking for a quiet time in nature, this is not the place. There was a group of middle aged men blasting music about getting high and drunk that you could hear from the nature trail and multiple loops over for hours. I talked to multiple campers and we all thought maybe the camp host would say something, but they did not. Many people were not following the quiet time restriction. Ended up leaving early because of how obnoxious people were, and saw others move their campsite as well.
