River Hotel of Southport

Very basic. We came from NY and stayed for 2 nights. I like the location and the old style of our room, which was totally different from our friends room in buildin #3, which was modern and much newer. My biggest issue was the smell in the room. As soon as you step in you could smell something terrible. It was moisture, old water, idk but it needs to be investigated and fix the issue. Our room was 117 in building #1 on second floor. The elevator didn't work the entire weekend so we had to carry our suitcases up the stairs. It wasn't fun. The receptionist was super nice when needed to fix an issue that occurred during stay. Make sure you read the fine print about late check-in. Otherwise noone will be there to let you in and you have to sleep in bushes. There is no costumer service as well

Pleasantly surprised of all the amenities in this small hotel. Full kitchen, views of the Cape Fear River, pool, access to the water, very clean, friendly and welcoming staff. I left behind my toiletry bag and they called to tell me and agreed to mail it back to me. So grateful! Elevator wasn’t working in our building but only had to walk up one flight. They were fixing it. Would recommend this hotel when visiting Southport. Also very close to the ferry terminals.

The overall quality of the property was superb. We especially enjoyed the sunrise and sunset views over the water. Our stay was on a warm November weekend, so we didn't use the pool, but the lighted pier and small beach were very peaceful. The room was nice, extremely clean, and the kitchenette had everything we needed to make snacks and breakfasts in the room. The shower facility was excellent and would be safe for a person with physical limitations. My only complaint (as others noticed) was the very soft mattresses. Some might love this; as an older person, I woke up stiff and sore. Also, the mattresses have no edge support and collapse if you sit too close to the edge. I found this out when I accidently moved too close to the edge while sleeping and was dumped onto the floor! So this is

We stayed at The River Hotel in Southport, NC over the 4th of July and had a wonderful experience! The room was spacious, spotless, and well-maintained. Each unit comes with its own kitchenette, which is perfect for couples or families who want the convenience of preparing meals without having to rent a whole beach house. The location is fantastic! It was close to town, yet tucked away enough to feel like a getaway. The hotel has a beautiful pool that’s handicap accessible, plus a newly built dock that’s great for fishing. There was plenty of parking, and the elevators made everything easy to access. One of our favorite moments was watching the fireworks from the hotel’s little deck - it was the perfect spot.
