Red Roof Inn Gurnee - Waukegan

During our stay at your property we experienced roaches in our room. It was late night and we roughed it and dealt with the problem the best we could getting little sleep before attending our daughter's naval graduation. The next day we were offered another room which was better in the aspect of no pests, yet the door didn't fit the frame, the safety latch on the door was barely being held on by one screw, the other screw was more than halfway out and could be screwed by hand. Although the move was a gesture of kindness it was too little too late to make a first impression. The amount of money paid for our stay did not meet the quality of accommodations expected. Found a syringe between the wall and the bed so when my family and kids are asking what that is. Didn't want to upgrade their room just make us go upstairs with no elevator I have a ton of stuff. He said it's an upgrade but it's the same room same size. Then are the sudden there is another room across the way from my original room. This one did not really smell smell okay. Not very friendly with pets.

Positive: It was close to everything. Negative: It has a mold problem. I was sick every moment of being in this hotel. Everything is peeling and falling apart. The bed was uncomfortable and sagging in the middle.

I made this reservation purely for the convenience of what was around. Knowing that a hotel that was cheaper and not a 5 star place I might regret. However, zero regrets. I was in town for my son’s boot camp graduation. There was 7 of us. Going all different directions. I had things delivered, kids picked up and dropped off from Taxis and Uber. Arriving at midnight for one and leaving at 4:30 am for another. Not one second did I not feel safe leaving my kids in our room to attend to another child at the main door. Or to go to my car. The gentleman whom I presume might be the owners are the sweetest and most kind people. They knew I was scatter brained because of the occasion but I felt like anything I asked of them they handled or managed without question. It made me Momma fears disappear

I found 3 (suspected) cockroaches in my room in one day, had used shampoo and no conditioner, no hand soap, and when I used the hand towel I left and came back later that day and saw the same dirty folded like it was clean….also when I walked in one bed wasn’t made. And the parking lot definitely could be redone… But the location was convenient, and the main desk guy knew what he was talking about
