Had a great time camping with the dogs at Pioneer Pass! The dirt road up the mountain is curvy and narrow…watch for oncoming vehicles…especially dirt bikes and atvs ! Campsites are secluded and FREE!..picnic tables and fire rings….and bear boxes! Always enjoy visiting Tonto Nation Forest….a great escape up in the pines from summer heat or just from the city!

Did some camping in spot 13. No water flowing in creek but was a very serene location. Our bathroom was in great shape, clean and even had TP! We will certainly be back

If you are looking for quiet, serene, semi-secluded camping, this is it! And it’s free and no reservations! There are several different camping areas in the overall campground. There are pit toilets for every 6 campsites. NO water, so bring your own. You do have to drive seven miles up a mountain in a single lane (but two way) dirt road with no guard rails, but you are rewarded once you are there. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring. Pit toilets were well maintained and did not stink. There were pine trees everywhere and temperatures were about 20+ degrees less than in the phoenix valley. There were some trails and lots of places for the kids to play (big rocks, slopes, sticks, etc. ). No actual playground equipment. Just woods. That’s why it’s perfect!

The best, most underrated camp spot in all of arizona. It’s underrated and the best because no one goes out here. I’m a big camping person, as you can see of all my reviews of camp grounds. I experience alot of them. This campground in specific, has my heart, and I’ll explain why. When people go camping, the one thing they’re after is peace. Quiet. Relaxation. A connection with nature you do not get in the city. The birds, the wind through the trees, everything about camping is tied to the experience you get from being out in nature. With that being said, the reason this campground exceeds all others is simple. No one goes out here. I’ve come to find that other people are what makes camping experiences sub par and undesirable. It’s other people. And because there were no people out

Hate to give any campground 5 stars because I lose my spot. This campground is a jewel. Wonderful drive from Phoenix through Globe-Miami and hidden in a small pocket of the southern Tonto Forest is this spot. This will definitely be on my list to return.
