Kellner Campground

This spot is awesome!! Tent spots nice and spread out. Loved listening to the creek flowing. Road was a little washed away/rough in a couple places but manageable when taking your time. Should have a higher clearance vehicle but don't need four wheel drive. Bathroom was super clean. Sites did have a lot of glass.

First off, this is a fee area, and the road is blocked unless you make a reservation and get the lock code. Making our way out to the campground from the Phoenix area, we found that Russell Road is blocked off. You need to take the alternate route through Globe to get here. Once you're there, it's picturesque and peaceful. When we went, the stream was flowing pretty well, so we made a small stone bridge to get across to the camping areas beyond the picnic area. In spring, fire danger is low, so you can build fires in designated pits at the picnic area and individual camp sites. That said, we could not locate the Kellner canyon trailhead, which appears to be next to the picnic area. The road to get into the campground is definitely not made for passenger vehicles, like sedans.

This is an oddly laid out campground. It's a group site that you rent. Many little sure within the campground. Not a bad location, but the parking is the bad part. Our group had 2 small suvs and an RV. We fit, but i wouldn't expect more that 4-5 vehicles. (Turning around gets tricky with more vehicles there). Overall we liked it. We just didn't like it enough to go back.
