Peacock Motor Inn

The staff were polite & professional. That's the only positive feedback I have. Room smelled musty & damp. Bathroom floor was so filthy we had to wear shoes. Dead bugs in bed once the covers were turned back. Beds were way too firm to the point if causing discomfort during the night. Boasts updated rooms in 2012 but looks as it did when I stayed as a child in 1984. Advertised price was $69.99 but I paid $108.20 with tax after military discount because they lower rate rooms were all booked. Linen was stained. My family & I will never stay there again but I want to stress that the staff was awesome.

Officially, the Peacock Motor Inn says it has a retro look to make it look like a 1950s motel. I wasn't around then, so I can't say, but it looks kind of shabby on the outside. Maybe that's what motels looked like back then. The rooms themselves were nice, although the triple room they originally quoted us for did not have the type of beds the clerk said (we checked before taking the room), so we had to get 2 rooms. The rooms were very clean. The bed was a bit soft for my tastes, but my wife thought it was OK. While the outside is "retro" the rooms are modern enough.

This motel seems to assume the worst in people. There is a sign in the bathroom not to steal the towels or that prices will go up. You have to sign a paper that you'll be charged if you lose your key....While I realize that costs are involved when people break rules, i.e., extra cleaning if you decide to smoke in your room--there was a scolding tone to the rules, as if the owner expected the worst of his guests.||||On top of that, the shower was old, and while the tile was cool, the head of the shower was tilted in such a way that you could never get under it. (And, despite conversations with the housekeeper, we never got fresh towels OR had our room cleaned!)||||I've also never stayed anywhere in a beach area that didn't have places to dry your swim suits and towels. If I could give 5 stars for friendly service/staff , comfortable beds and TV I would. I would give it 2 and a half stars but cant. We came in at 9am after driving 11 hours they let us check in for over night stay without charging extra. The beds were comfortable and bedding was clean. Unfortunately the Motor Inn needed updates. Cleaning was not up to par. No need to list all but safe to say great for a quick stop.

Stopped here once about 15 years ago. Found it to be disgusting and in desperate need of repair. My recent visit in Aug 2016 has an identical review. (Clogged tub drain; bathroom mirror balanced on sink at about belly button level instead of being a fixed to the wall at eye level; Only two bath towels for four people; etc)||However, the night desk manager was very friendly. And despite the shabbiness of the accommodations, this is still a perfect place to get a few hours sleep when you need to stop for the night while on a drive to OBX. Wouldn't want to stay any longer that.
