Orchard Motel

We like staying in unique motels rather than chains. Our unit had 2 bedrooms, a small fridge, coffee maker and a dining table with 2 chairs. The owner was very nice and brought us a little "fireplace heater" when I mentioned to her that the fall weather had come and it was a little chilly. The beds were comfortable the decor was nice. The bathroom is kind of small. Things are a little dated but for 2 very comfortable beds, a nice central location, and a super good price, what's not to like? We have stayed there 2 or 3 times now and will go back again for sure if we pass that way again.

The good: I was able to get a room for myself and my dog at 9:pm. It was priced fairly well. The management were very nice. It was pretty clean inside||The not so good: it smelled like cigarette smoke and ash right outside the door. The parking was very short, I had to park down the street. It was loud and the neighbors looked like drug dealers coming in and out at all hours. The shower was tiny and the water aims outside the shower soaking the floor STRANGE.

My girlfriend and I recently stayed in rooms 5 and 7. We found the rooms to be tiny, an expectation of an older motel. The beds had cozy quilt coverings, the showers were HOT, and the air conditioner worked very well. The owners have 4 dogs and dogs are welcome, although we did not travel with pets. We got excellent recommendations for local restaurants, thrift and antique shops, and we got an extremely restful sleep in spite of the train during the night (a childhood comfort sound, by the way).

Simple, clean rooms, at a really affordable price, downtown and away from the Interstate, with satellite TV and wi-fi included, a very comfy mattress, and a super friendly owner: it's exactly what we wanted for a night staying in La Grande. The carpet could use a good cleaning, but otherwise, it's what we wanted. We really appreciated the owner putting us in the room right next to the office, so that our motorcycles could be parked with an obstructed view from the street. There was a place to get breakfast right next door, and Safeway is also within walking distance. We paid half of what we would have paid had we stayed at a chain motel back at the interstate, plus, the owner has dogs and I got to pet them.
