Ocean Palms Beach Resort Carlsbad Beach

We only stayed here one night as part of a road trip, but wish it could've been a week! It was easy to find, and we managed to get a parking space on the street outside to check in (and then one inside the small courtyard once we'd found out where our room was). I can imagine at peak times, it may be a bit tricky to get a close parking spot, but that's to be expected in a smaller hotel in a residential area of a busy beach town. The chap on check-in was fab, and very helpful. We felt welcomed (which I have to say on this first road-tip post-covid wasn't the standard in a lot of places we stayed this time unfortunately). We just returned home after a wonderful 3-night midweek off-season stay at Ocean|Palms. We've stayed here several times before, but this time was by far the best. We know this place is popular with families (for good reason), but as a couple, we appreciate a more peaceful and relaxing environment. That's exactly what we experienced this time. Our room was spacious, quiet, and comfortable. The staff -- from the front desk to the housekeeping and landscaping crews -- were all friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The grounds were clean and well-maintained. Plus the hotel is within easy walking distance from the beach, restaurants, farmer's market, train station, good running and cycling, and much more. Positive: From second floor you can see the ocean. You have hear the ocean our room. Big enough for a family of 4. Quite area, second time staying there. Negative: It has a functioning kitchen and would have like to have a baking sheet for the oven also some paper towels for the kitcken would be useful.

We go here every year and absolutely love it! Although we have thought about trying a new place, when we decide to actually book, we end up staying here again! The people are so helpful and friendly, the owner and his kids that work there are fantastic and the house keepers are so friendly and keep the place looking great! We don't even have to ask for the room to be freshened up, we just get back from where ever we went and it's as good as new. They always give us our favorite room and make sure our stay is great every time! The ONLY thing that needs improvement is the room does not have a microwave. That would be a great addition to the full kitchens the suites have! You won't regret staying here.... Perfect get away and walking distance from everything you need.

Stayed here for the location, which was great. The room was clean. Staff was nice. HOWEVER, knowing they had kitchens, we brought food for the freezer and the fridge. Both were cold and seemed to be working, but when we went to open ice cream, it was completely melted. Fridge was not working as it should be either, causing us to throw about $100 worth of food away. I spoke with staff the day we noticed it, they said they would tell maintenance (along with tiles lifting in the bathroom). The following day we checked out and the guy said he would tell management. It's been 2 weeks and I have not heard from anyone. Sucks to have paid that much money to stay there and lose more money on faulty appliance. If you plan on staying here, be cautious.
