Ocean Lake WHMA - Long Point Campground

Nice little free campground. We stopped here for a night on our road trip to the badlands. About 5 miles down a maintained gravel road. We have our 35 foot camper in tow and didn’t have any problems. There was only one other camper on the opposite side of the campground. Nice spot.

I’m not sure who stays here, but I know we turned ourselves around. First of all, the road to get there is like riding over a cheese grater. If you want to put your suspension to the test and see how well your RV will hold up, then you go for it. “Would not recommend,” -my husband. The gravel road was so unnecessarily bumpy it rattled the wires under our camper loose- that’s a first for us. We’ve done a lot of boondocking and this is among the worst. This is not a hidden gem- it’s hidden for a reason. No trees, no shade, and lots of trash you can bake in the sun next to. The first site we went to was full of trash. The next one was also full of trash with additional graffiti all over the picnic area. This is also not a nice “lake,” but just a collection of all the runoff from the surroundi

Tons of mosquitoes, we didn't camp at the point, but another dispersed spot. Bc vaulted restroom. No one on the lake, looked like a lot of algae at this spot. Only two actual spots to camp at this road.

This is the biggest and most developed of the Ocean Lake campgrounds. Navigation and road access are relatively easy. Almost any vehicle or trailer combination can reach this campground with ease. The roads are improved dirt or gravel with limited mud or ruts. The campground has no potable water but lake access is possible at certain points. Many of the campsites come with (10) sun/wind picnic shelters grills and ( a few!) fire rings. There a proper concrete boat ramp and 20' aluminum fishing pier. Due to no trees and being on a narrow peninsula it can be often times very windy but also causes to have few if any insect problems. We visited here September 2023.

Good place to take a nap, fish or relaxe, they have restrooms also and places to picnic
