Nicholson House at Beaujolais Mendocino

We’ve stayed at the Nicholson House three times in three different rooms, and each one is beautiful, inviting, and completely unique—we vowed to try them all! Unlike many dated Victorian places in the area, Nicholson House is Victorian chic - modern comfort with thoughtful vintage details (like paintings, brass, and tile) throughout. This visit we stayed in Room #7 and it was pure luxury—ocean view, private deck, steam shower, soaking tub, and plenty of space to relax! The location can't be beat. On some trips we wander around the area and explore, but this time we parked our car when we arrived and didn’t move it once! Everything in the village is walkable—meals, shopping, the Headlands, and Big River Beach. Mollie, the owner/curator, is incredible—so thoughtful, responsive, and intent

We enjoyed a fabulous mid-week stay for our anniversary at Nicholson House in the village of Mendocino! We were graciously upgraded to a gorgeous room (#7) on the backside of the property - again...mid-week stay - thank you!! Not only was the view wonderful but the space itself, including a large deck, was fantastic! Nicely appointed and keeping to their upscale and chic vibe. Yes, they've managed to blend a Victorian vibe with the whimsy of Art Deco for a truly unique, boutique flavor. Now one of my favorite rooms in a hotel is the bathroom - it just speaks to me, and this one said a whole lot! We stayed in the Luxury Queen Bedroom #3. Part of the review is specific to the room. The location was perfect, right in the town center. It is on a residential street, so is is quiet and peaceful. The room was beautiful, the bathroom spacious. It is cleaned and serviced every day - unlike some places, you don't need to request it. The wet bar area proved very handy as a breakfast nook, since the cafe was often full and we brought our croissants and coffee back to the room. Two small improvements would make the room perfect. There is no place to store your clothes. One of the two decorative couches is in a corner where the sloping roof prevents you sitting there. It could be replaced with a small chest of drawers. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and it was absolutely incredible!! They upgraded us to the king suite and it was gorgeous, spacious, and the room had so many thoughtful touches. We stayed at another place in town as well and wish we would have just stayed at the Nicholson the whole time! The restaurants are fantastic as well. Highly highly recommend :)

Fabulous Christmas stay in this beautiful, stylish and very comfortable place. The rooms are styled according to its colonial heritage, very pleasant to relax. All the furniture as well as the bathroom in perfect shape. |The next door Café Beaujolais served fantastic food; service excellent and friendly!
