It was a nice port and everyone was very helpful EXCEPT plan your cruise around Mardi Gras. I'm in south Alabama and Mardi Gras is HUGE and even I didnt think. We were stuck in traffic for hours and were literally the last to board the ship. Otherwise....the port was nice.
Parking for non-Carnival cruises is pretty bad, with an open parking lot and no safe way for pedestrians to get from it to the terminal. This really needs to be addressed, but outside of that this is one of our favorite cruise terminals. The people working there have all been so very kind and helpful with the most cheerful attitudes you'll see at any port! Flow of passengers is usually smooth, with a few "traffic jams" of people indoors when disembarking a cruise, but it's never really bad. We've been on dozens of cruises out of many ports around the world and other than parking, this cruise port will have you smiling because of the great people working there!
Every year the city of New Orleans hosts Mardi Gras... and every year they close streets for parades and festivities. Yet Google Maps and Apple Maps don't have data to re-route to the cruise terminal... if you want pure pandemonium the weekend before Fat Tuesday is the time and The Cruise Terminal is the place...
New Orleans should be ashamed of what they're calling this to be a cruise port. First, it is very confusing for parking. You have officers working here who has no clue where parking is. So, if the people working there doesn't know where parking is, how do NO expect visitors to find the parking? Now that our cruise is over, I would never cruise out of NO again. Absolute mess... However, views from ship are great when leaving.
Parking was o.k. Luggage check in easy. Employees in terminal are rude and obnoxious. Not a pleasant experience. Lines moved pretty fast. New Orleans is a definite NO.
