Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Marriott Morgantown hotel. There are not many larger/full-service hotels in the area and it was a pleasure to have the Marriott exceed my expectations. The staff, in particular the front desk that i encountered were all attentive, helpful and friendly. I received an upgrade to a king suite for my week long stay which i enjoyed very much to have some extra space. The rooms were fresh and spotless and must have been remodeled of recent. Some nice views of the nearby Mon-River as well. The concierge lounge was great - ample grab and go offerings, fruit, snacks, hot breakfast options, coffee/tea and stocked drinks. The hot tub was out of service in early Nov. I just recently visited again (Dec. 25 - Dec 28). Hot tub still not functioning and pool itself was DIRTY looking with pool tables and chairs grungy. Definitely NOT Marriott expected standards!

The rooms were pretty nice, and that's about the only good thing. The parking is annoyingly far from the hotel lobby and is not complimentary. The breakfast was atrocious. We did get a complimentary breakfast coupon due to my hotel status, and it's a good thing too. If you have to pay for watery eggs, microwave bacon, and yesterday's French toast sticks I suggest you just go get a microwave breakfast item from the on-site Starbucks. The restaurant coffee was the only good thing there. Bonus negative points for being yelled at/harassed by the wait staff who conveniently forgot that she had already taken our breakfast ticket and implied we were dining and dashing. The only reason it's not a 1 star is because the rooms were very nice. Everything else about the experience was 1 star.

Positive: Location Negative: The breakfast buffet was terrible. For $17/person you should not be serving French toast that cannot even be cut or chewed because it is so hard. It?s too expensive for the quality of food on the buffet. Our room was great, spacious, and clean.

Thermostat is just for show, which is so infuriating. On a wintry day I kept turning it up until it got to 86 degrees and it never blew out warm air. If you're going to stay here in winter, bring fuzzy socks and layers. Personally I'm going to smuggle in a space heater.||This is also one of those places where they teach the housekeeping staff to tuck the comforter securely UNDER the bottom of the very thick mattress, which takes up a HUGE amount of comforter, which means when you get into bed the duvet only comes up to your waist. I actually like a cold room for sleeping, but I still want to be able to have my shoulders covered if I get chilly during the night. And it's tucked in so securely that you can't kick it free, you have to get up out of bed and untuck it and pull it up to shoulder
