Lower Falls Trailhead

God’s wonderful creation. Stunning. You have to be able to walk the trails that are not hilly. Parking is plentiful. Park staff is knowledgeable and friendly. This is a must stop on your UP travels. Great for kids.

Sensational trailhead. Lots of parking in this lot, which seems pretty necessary as this was a popular place to be, even with the threat of rain in the forecast. Trail itself is mostly very easy--half-mile or so of boardwalk starts a short distance away from here, and crosses a bridge to the island, which is mostly flat and well-maintained. Several places from which to observe the falls along these trails here.

We've been here several times but this was the first since the new bridge was put in. I'm so glad this was placed here. I never knew how cool the little island was. Great views of the river and nature.

It's a very short walk to the lower falls. I would not call this a trail as it is paved/ on a boardwalk. The path offers plenty of viewing platforms before you even get to the bridge to the island. I think it’s great that it is wheelchair accessible. They also put a lot of thought into the layout to provide the best possible view points. It’s not necessary to take this path from the lower falls parking lot. You can access the island and this pathway from the upper falls lot if you trek the 4 mile river trail.
