Lava Hot Springs Inn & Spa

This is the second time my husband and I have been here. We absolutely love this place. It’s not usually too busy when we go, but we go in the winter, out of season. The pools are hot and clean, and the views are beautiful. The changing rooms are a bit lacking, but they have lockers on the outside that you can put your stuff in and lock if you bring a lock.

We have been long time patrons of this establishment, but never again! We stayed friday night, Dec 5th. It was my husband's birthday so we upgraded to Room 9. JACUZZI suite.*190$* for a Meh room, but what looked like a nice bed. We wouldn't use the jetted tub, bc it looked gross. That sadly was the least of our problems. SAT. I woke up and my palm was itchy, when I noticed a bite of sorts and a couple orange-ish spots on the bed sheets.. Didn't think much of it, until later after we arrived home. I was covered in itchy red dots! After looking at what was going on all signs led to BED BUGS!! I notified the hotel first thing this am (sun. Dec 7th) I did not ask for a refund although I should have, but it wouldn't have mattered. The gal at the front desk asked if I had pictures to prove there

We have been coming here for decades and decided we needed to make one more trip since it is on the market for sale. We usually stay in the historic hotel but decided to go all out and get a Spa Room for two nights. We enjoy the Spa Room in the blue building. Breakfast is always wonderful. Unfortunately, used bandaids, cigarette butter, tissues, and animal feces lay around with employees not caring on the least. The water is so clear and wonderful. I hope the new owners will take proper care if the facility. It was so much potential 😪 The blue building does not have any lights in the atrium area. You have to use your phone flashlight. The toilet in the room cannot be used with the door closed.

Best part about this place is Shadow!! The employees aren't overly friendly, just want to take your money and be left alone. The pools we normally soak in, behind the hotel, were so hot this time that we couldn't get into them. Glad they finally got out the hose and added cold water. They allow people to let their dogs run unsupervised, so beware of poop. We brought in our own drinks, which is nice that they allow this, but they came running out concerned out our Red Bull cans, thinking it was alcohol, didn't bother to check the others around us, one person drinking beer and who knows what was in all the stanleys, we didn't care what others were doing, but didn't appreciate the employees checking only us about our Red Bull. This entire property is in dire need of some serious TLC. The photos in the google listing are wildly outdated. - filthy changing rooms. We changed outside in the cold to avoid touching anything in these dismal changing rooms. The tile is cracking and the drain could easily hurt someone as they left a raw edge. Hair and trash everywhere. Major ick. - the hand rails are all mismatched PVC pipe. Pool themselves are fine but clearly haven’t been looked after and revenue isn’t being put back into the property. We stayed at the Cawlish Apt 1 and it’s in such disrepair it should be taken offline until it also gets a deep clean and much needed attention.
