La Jolla Shores Hotel

We have stayed here several times, the staff is amazing. I wish the rooms were more updated and that the distinct smell could be cleaned from it. It just still seems “old”. I really love this place and would stay if it could be updated even more with the bathroom fixtures, walls, and flooring. When I asked if the construction was to update the rooms- they told me it was to update the balconies. I feel like the insides should be updated first. But overall, staying directly on the beach is awesome and the price is great for it!

My overall experience was poor. The room was old and everything felt outdated. From glasses to couch to furniture. I was celebrating a special day here and spend good amount of money on the Ocean view room. I called 3 days in advance to reserve a good room but all they did was to give me the worst room possible in the hotel. An uneven balcony with bird poop all over which also spoiled my shirt. The uneven balcony made it impossible to even sit out and enjoy the ocean view. I went to the food desk asking for a switch but they said their rooms are fully occupied when I could see almost no humans in my block and in the balconies. Dining at The Shores Restaurant is a true La Jolla experience, offering beautiful oceanfront views and a relaxed beachside atmosphere. The setting alone makes it worth the visit, with stunning scenery that pairs perfectly with a casual yet inviting vibe. The food was enjoyable, with a solid menu that offers something for everyone, from fresh coastal dishes to classic favorites. What truly elevated our experience, however, was the service. Our waitress, Sarahi, was absolutely amazing — attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The room was very quiet, a great bed, wonderful staff and beach view if you stand up. It's great that they except dogs. Since they're remodeling you should know there are less amenities. Until it's remodeled "resort" is a stretch. Luxury rooms is a complete miss for the money. The beach helps make up for that but not enough.
