La Fonda on the Plaza

The hotel lobby is fantastic, it’s a historic place and fun to walk around. The staff is superb. I did not eat in the restaurant but have been told by friends that the food is excellent (and it was packed for every meal). The room was average but in all fairness it is part of the hotel designated for remodeling next month. I love the woodwork from another era in the elevators and the artwork that adorns the walls. Great location, too. If you drive to the hotel, know that you go directly to the garage on the corner. There is no valet parking in the traditional sense, although the staff will valet park your car once you pull into the garage.

Overall very good, but we could've used some more towels, the desk chair was very uncomfortable, not much space for suitcases. Decor was great however, all the support for unique art is greatly appreciated and the staff was great.

I have been At the Lafonda for many years… And I keep coming back because the rooms are beautiful, the overall atmosphere of the hotel is truly enchanting, and the service is always excellent. The team at La Fonda are some of the friendliest people… Always checking in on me to see if I need anything During my stay… Always Available to answer And take care of me while I’m there… I am definitely a fan of La Fonda on the plaza and will continue to stay there in the future… i’m already booked for opera season this summer and I’m bringing my cousin and her husband along to enjoy the La Fonda experience…

First the good. The location is of course great, the rooms were clean and the valet team was excellent. ||Now, the not so good. The check in staff and French bakery staff were not welcoming and were rude at times. The rooms are very poorly designed, the bathrooms are tiny, and everything is generally underwhelming for a luxury hotel. Despite booking two rooms in the same reservation, we were placed on different floors. The walls are paper thin, and so we could hear other guests and staff starting very early in the morning. House cleaning was knocking on doors before 830 am. The bar is understaffed and too small for a property of this size. ||The place has potential, but it is poorly managed and fails to execute. My wife arrived and found out that the parking is not at the Hotel, also did not know from the booking website that there was an additional fee of $30.00 PN for parking per vehicle. I booked the room for king bed and fireplace, there was a fireplace but did not have wood or anything to lite it, why would, I would book room for a fireplace and it does not work. Front desk staff, really need retrain them to have a better attitude and personality to welcome and greet guests. Just FYI, what you see on website about room is not what you are paying for. The restaurant and staff were great and so was the food, my wife said if we come back to SF, the place will be for the food, not the accommodations.
