Julian Gold Rush Hotel

Had another great get-away at our favorite place- Julian Hotel! They do the best in decorating for Christmas with such lavish decor throughout dining room, sitting room and halls! They spare nothing to create the homey, festive and period atmosphere with the carols playing in the background and the gorgeous, tastefully adorned tree in the sitting area. The staff is perfectly welcoming and accommodating and serving a delicious 2 course breakfast in their country style dining room. Bed comfy and aiding a great night sleep. We love the country style and motif of the rooms and hotel with lace, wallpaper, antique furniture and even porcelain washbasins for effect. We keep coming back and making a stay here at least a yearly "habit"!

Positive: Lovely style and decorated hotel with cute game/hang out area. The lady who checked me in was an absolute treasure, and made me feel so welcome. And the man working there was also kind and accommodating. Negative: The bathroom had a strong smell. Maybe it was freshly painted?

Our family regularly visits Julian, CA, for its old world charm and delicious apple pies. We were always intrigued by the beautiful history of the Julian Gold Rush Hotel, once owned by a formerly enslaved couple. It is a quiet and peaceful get-away, and I highly recommend it! In recent months, I have stayed here on two occasions, accompanied by my elderly Mom. We were allowed in early before check-in time. Our first stay coincided with Mom's foot injury, so the reception staff readily assigned us room #15 on the first floor. It has windows to the quiet courtyard, which is perfect for eating al fresco. (See photos.) Mom is an early bird, so she was especially grateful for her morning coffee, which is ready by 6:30 a.m. I am a light sleeper, so on our second visit, I specifically requested

The Julian Gold Rush Hotel is charming and authentic, with a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes it a pleasure to stay. It’s located in the heart of Julian and within easy walking distance of all the shops and restaurants, which makes exploring the town incredibly convenient. The included breakfast is quite delicious and a wonderful way to start the day. While the rooms on the upper floors are on the smaller side, they add to the fun, cozy experience. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily stay here again.

My husband and I (20’s age range) stayed here for 2 nights and had the best time. The hotel was so beautiful and location was great. Breakfast was delicious and the games before bedtime was the highlight of our trip. My only complaint would be parking, but that is outside of the hotels control. Either get there early (before noon) and don’t move your car, or go on hikes/tours all day and come back at 8pm when the downtown area is mostly cleared out.
