Customer Reviews
The room was clean, and having two beds was a plus. Soundproofing was solid. I couldn’t hear neighboring rooms coming or going, which was appreciated. Parking isn’t accessible from inside the hotel, so expect an outdoor walk to the back lot. Weather matters. The surrounding area had a steady stream of people asking for cigarettes, money, and other creative donations. Breakfast is available, but the spread isn’t monitored. Dishes ran out, and the area needed cleaning between guests, even though breakfast stays open until 10 a.m. Showering turned into a full-contact sport. The shower curtain is not waterproof and spent the entire shower aggressively clinging to me while letting water flood the bathroom. The curtain won. Also, no washcloths were included with the towels. On a positive note,
Hyatt Place downtown was way better than expected. The breakfast was AMAZING, everything fresh. They even had sautéed onions and peppers. Happy hour was a plus too! Can’t beat $5.50 drinks in downtown Houston! Will stay here again when I come to town.
I did 3 nights here to attend a conference at The Downtown Convention Centre (George Brown) which was about a 15 minutes walk away. I got in touch with the GM James Breazeale since I was having a few parcels delivered to the hotel prior to my arrival. The hotel did a nice job in holding the four parcels which were released to me only after showing an ID. I had also requested for a slightly early check-in and a possible upgrade to a room with a view. As it turned out, I managed to check-in early at about 1 PM while they also upgraded me from a base category room to a very nice corner room at the 12th floor (#1201) with stunning views of the downtown. While check-in they handed over a fact sheet with lists of nearby restaurants that was such a time saver. Discoverists like me were eligi
Positive: The staff was excellent. Negative: We were expecting a high rated stay as this is a Hyatt but our bed was infested with bed bugs. We brought this to the staff's attention.
I love the location of the property. The hotel seemed clean and the staff seemed friendly and attentive. My room was disappointing. The shower head was garbage. As soon as I turned it on, it was spraying water out of the shower onto me and all over the floor. I could not get it adjusted to what I wanted. Also, there was basically no hot water. It wasn't a cold shower but it was cool. The guide on the TV didn't work. Not the end of the world but annoying. Finally, the blackout shades over the windows were all broken so the level of privacy wasn't acceptable. The bar on the 16th floor was nice.
