Houghton Lake State Forest Park

Fall season beauty! Primitive, simple but a wonderful one night stop over on the way west. Boat docks have been pulled out but water still running. Big trees throughout the camp ground. But Not too much space between sites nor ground cover. Clean well lit flush bathrooms.

Driving at night we searched for a park for the RV. Lucky arrived to Houghton lake wish at night couldn't see much but, the next day walking up to a beautiful view to the lake. This got to be one of the most beautiful misty day.

Small, primitive, and possessing raw Michigan beauty. Also healthy and abundant green grass, new firepits, and small but functional boat launch. Tiny perfection with CLEAN restrooms.

We come the same time every year for a week and love being right on the lake! Fishing in the mornings is what my kids talk about most even months after our camping trip! My husband grew up camping here with his family, and his mom as a child before him. I do think for $25 a night (was $16 7 years ago) they should do some updating. The center lots are pits, it rains and fills up and makes the skeeters terrible for a day or 2. The bathrooms are great, but they do not clean them often so the bugs-products and toilets can get stinky. I do wish they had a little playground area for kids, over the last few years I have seen more and more families come in and the kids all love it, even though the hill by the bathrooms seems to be the spot they hang out at. Quiet, peaceful, nature, beautiful views of the lake, nice fire pit, outhouse is only a toilet, annoying flies (August). I thank Jesus for this place!
