Holiday Inn Spearfish-Convention Center by IHG

We have stayed here over the years off and on and always thought it was a good stop. We were put in room 187 which was in very bad shape. We were only staying overnight and did not realize how bad things were until it was too late to switch. I showed the photos below to the front desk staff and their only comment was "that's disgusting". The room had not really been cleaned, there was a breathright strip stuck on the headboard of the bed from the last guest, the bathroom door was upside down and broken - it would not even shut. We only opened the fridge to see why it was making so much noise and were greeted with something spilled and smelly inside - who knows how long ago. Until they have done a refresh and upped their cleaning game, I would pass on this place.

This hotel is alright if you are there using the convention center. If not, I wouldn’t recommend it. The rooms are horribly unkept and outdated. I walked in and the first thing I saw was a USED feminine pad on the floor. Not exactly what I wanted to see right away. Made me not want to take my shoes off. The bathroom was old and unkept. The wood structure above the sink was horribly discolored from wiping it down with cleaning products. There was barely enough room for my toiletry bag. You can tell they have had to install new IHG items in the room, but none of them were working or plugged in. You can tell they were forced to install, but have no intention of using the items. This was one of the worst Holiday Inn's I have stayed at. I hardly ever leave reviews but felt like this hotel needed one. The staff were great and the check in process was easy. The room however was deplorable! The room was large and spacious and the bedroom had it's own door, which was great because it was the only space that didn't smell like mold and dirty wet socks. I was unable to use the shower as it and the shower curtain were covered in like a pink mold. It didn't look like it had been cleaned in years. The shower curtain smelled so foul that even if the shower was clean I still would not have used it. It was absolutely disgusting. If it weren't for the fact I had drove 17.5 hours I would have left. Positive: Location Negative: Out dated. Couch was torn and dirty. Bathroom was rusty and outdated. Elevator too far from rooms.No exercise facility. Just not up no Holiday inn standard we expect.

No issues with the hotel at all. I have an EV so the on-site chargers were amazing. The hotel does have an unusual layout for a holiday inn, with a central atrium containing the pool and hot tub, with interior rooms having windows into that area. Definitely due for a renovation, TVs are from 2010 era.
