Holiday Inn Express & Suites Mattoon by IHG

I debated a lot between giving 2 and 3 stars. I stay at a lot of Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express hotels. This one is towards the top of my least favorite list. It was dark out when I arrived, and go my surprise, all the parking lot lights were off making it very difficult to see as I found a parking spot. The lights did turn on 30-45 minutes later. Nothing stood out to me as a positive or negative during the check in process. There was some water on the floor by the elevator with some wet floor signs but I assume someone spilled something. When I got to my room I was so confused because this did not meet my expectations from other Holiday Inn/Express locations. Positive: How quiet it was Negative: 1. The lady serving breakfast was extremely rude to me and to other customers 2. The pool area should of been blocked off until they had good water. County wide water recall was over but this hotel hasn't replace pool water or treated the water properly

We had a surprisingly nice experience! Disclaimer I don’t expect too much from hotels anymore unfortunately. But the rooms were clean, staff was friendly, and the breakfast is really what’s calling for the 5 stars. My jaw dropped when I saw the breakfast, I was overly impressed by how full and delicious everything looked in there! The woman who made breakfast was chatting with us and was sooo kind! You can tell she really cares about her job and also loves it! I would imagine why the food was good! Only thing I would say is that the pool was very questionable. You unfortunately can’t miss all the random things floating in the pool. The hot tub did not look like that but we we were told a mixture of things like the jets don’t work, and then that it just doesn’t get hot at all (even though w

In general the hotel is in poor condition. The furniture is dated, scratched, dinged and worn. The carpet in my room was torn and stained in multiple spots. The pool is in terrible shape. The whole building is in need of renovation. And watch out for the crater in the parking lot .There are other, better options in the area. If the HIE is renovated, I'll come back. If not, it's my last stay there.

I do like their is tons of stores/food places around the hotel. But, that being said they did not tell us untill we booked that the hotel was closed for maintenance, which is kinda the whole reason we booked THIS hotel... But thats not the biggest i understand thungs can happen. But, the service was not bad but not good at all either. We asked fir an extra pillow and the lady at the front desk said. "I dont know where they are but im sure their somewhere ". Like miss girl you work here.. even if it was your first day i think that like one of the moat asked questions. Anyway she aaid she would hunt one down and brijg it too us... That never happened! Also the roomes need updated but at least they were clean and the hotel was quiet and comfortable. Overall it was an okay stay!
