Holiday Inn Brooklyn Downtown by IHG

My mother stayed here for a couple of weeks; as I live nearby. It's a completely decent hotel. Yes, it's a little dated; yes, the armchair in the room is a little worn; yes, the swimming pool area is a little dingy; and yes, this is an affordable place so your fellow guests are typically not professors, doctors or celebrities. But it is warm and clean. The room has everything you need. The bathroom is bright and clean. The staff is nice and helpful. There's plenty going on so it feels like "home" when you come in. It has a swimming pool, which the fancy "Ace" down the street doesn't offer. And my gosh, it is affordable. I was very happy we chose this hotel.

Pro: |1. The staff is top rate! There wasn't one staff member who wasn't wonderful and helpful. |2. The room was clean|3. The location was excellent|4. Good restaurants a short walk from the hotel. ||Cons:|1. 1/2 the outlets didn't work.|2. the cofee maker didn't work.|3. the hot tub was dirty (the life guard was very helpful and nice)

The overall experience was not pleasant at all. Both front desk agents were just keeping their heads down at check in, did not even look or acknowledge me; I waited for a few minutes, one of them finally waved his hand to signal me, no greeting, no smile, no eye contact; very cold and unwelcoming. when I tell him that I'm a light sleeper and would like a quiet room, he just told me “It’s should be quiet enough". then I found out the room 812 is right around the elevator with ice machine, next to the electronical room along with the "data room". but we were in a rush to go out, so just had to deal with it. The room was dark, one side of the lights did not work; we also only had two bath towels and 1 wash cloth. I called for towels the next day around 8:20 am, and called 2 more times around

I’m giving this hotel 2 stars based on the overall experience during our stay at the Holiday Inn Downtown Brooklyn. If I hadn't had some help this would be a 1 star review. There were several issues that made the stay disappointing. The pool was not open during the day, and while the pool hours are listed on the website, they don’t make much sense and result in the pool being crowded when it is open. When we attempted to use the hot tub during posted open hours, it was closed (the lifeguard said it was cold??) The room and lobby were dusty, the room did not appear to be vacuumed, and the internet was very slow. There was no microwave in the room and we were told we would have to request one if we wanted one. Breakfast, which we paid for, is not worth the cost, with limits on juice and ver
