It's an older motel that hasn't really been updated in significant ways but It's been well maintained. The rooms are clean and spacious. Staff is nice and clean your room daily. It's located in a great area to access the parts of Chicago you'll want to visit. The area feels safe and the price is relatively reasonable. The only complaint I have is that they don't have a mini fridge or a microwave. They have the space. And with this room sometimes reaching over $100 a night I feel that small edition would make this the perfect middle ground between the more expensive hotels and the cheaper/dirtier motels located elsewhere.
The place and price are reasonable and okay; however, the service for the staff and the management is very bad, they have zero guest and consumer service. I had booked for one night and checked in around 10pm. I requested a nonsmoking room, but the room had a strange smell, to the point that I couldn’t sleep. I went to the front desk and explained the situation, requesting a different room. The staff member who was there that night, instead of helping me and giving me a different room, started yelling at me. I end up leaving the hotel at 1:20 AM. If I cannot sleep, what is the point of staying? Refused to change my room when half of their room was vacant that night. The next day, I called the office to speak with management. The person who answered the phone stated that he was the manag
If you're looking for an authentic 1970s motel experience, the Heart O' Chicago is EXACTLY what you're looking for. It's a two-level motel that wasn't full on the weekend (Sat night thru Mon morning) we were there, but we drew an upstairs room anyway. We slept Ozzie & Harriet style (separate beds) because the beds weren't really sized for two adults. They were also soft - like bowed in the middle soft. I know this sounds negative, but it's all part of what motels like HOC are and it's not at all a detriment to the experience. The outdated decor is part of the charm! Bathroom (and the room, too) was clean and 100% functional, which is all that really matters. We didn't sample breakfast either morning we were there, opting for a short walk to a diner for omelettes and pancakes. HOC is way up
This place is better than the typical big city motel/motor hotel, it is older but not worn. It was clean, no smells and no bugs. Hot water pressure was good, and individually-controlled central air conditioning worked well. The room had a table with 2 chairs, a separate small desk with chair, and the room and bathroom were plenty big not cramped. Despite being on a main street, it was quiet other than the occasional siren, and there was no noise from rooms next door or other guests outside. It was under $100/night with free parking, a bargain for Chicago. The CTA Red Line train is a 15-minute walk away, and we always felt safe in this neighborhood. There is a Starbucks and White Castle Hamburgers down the block. A downside is that there is no online reservation system, you must call. You g
The price was right. The rooms were clean except the carpet, which just needs to be replaced. Place was also clean, save the grimy carpet. Plastic wrapped cushions were hot to sleep on. Place smelled kinda strange. Location was great! Guy at front desk was very kind. And, overall, the place is cute.
