Hampton Inn Montrose

I’m kicking myself for not staying at the Fairfield this time. Communication and hospitality has been few and far between here for the same price as a decent hotel. Every time I’ve had to go to the front desk I was tested as a burden. The parking lot is dodgy and poorly lit if you’re not using the main entrance. I also wouldn’t recommend this hotel for families with kids. We spent a limited amount of time in the lobby to get out of the room and were made to feel more than unwelcomed and went back to our tiny room. The shower is tiny and outdated and it’s more than clear the owners have chosen the cheapest option for every “amenitiy” to maximize profit. We landed in Montrose late at night and to our dismay the car rental counter was closed. Although Hampton Inn boasts a shuttle, we set out on foot, in the dark, in the frigid air, thinking it was fairly close. It actually was close but almost impossible to see from the airport exit. We were greeted at the front desk by a delightful representative, checked in quickly and settled in to our room. The room was clean but seemed a bit dated, just not what we were used to at Hampton Inn properties. Breakfast the next day had several hot options but there wasn't anything fancy about it. On checkout we asked the desk rep about catching an early morning shuttle upon our return to the hotel later that week. She said that would not be a problem if we gave her a heads up. Positive: They have an amazing breakfast! Negative: They charged me $75. I found the charge on my bank statement. When I checked out and asked about any extra charges, said I had none. I had not bought anything, didn't even use housekeeping. There was no disclosure of this charge.

We stayed here for two nights while visiting Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, and the hotel far exceeded our expectations. The online photos we saw of the room showed that the furnishings looked old, so we were pleasantly surprised that the hotel looked like it had been recently renovated including our room. The staff were also incredibly friendly and the breakfast was great. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

This is a 5-star hotel. I’ve stayed at over 200 hotels worldwide and more than 30 in the US so far from 3 to 5 stars. This is one of the best hotels in the world and among the top three in the US. The sanitation standards are top-level from A to Z. Worth every single penny. I will come back without any hesitation if I face another winter storm. Thank you.
