Guest House at Shell Point

Our third stay here while visiting family. I reviewed this hotel last year at this time, and Average was a stretch. Wow, quite a change in the rooms! Major remodel. More modern look in the rooms. I’ve seen a lot of hotel ‘renovations’, and this one is truly a top to bottom room renovation. Before we arrived, we were contemplating if this would be our last stay if things did not change....well, they changed! Kudos to Shell Point. A nice quiet hotel with good location (obviously) to Shell Point community. The heated pool is nice on a cool Florida winter day. Reasonable price. Checkin/out was a breeze. Looking forward to our next visit.

Super for having convenient access to Shell Point and to your loved ones living there. And if you're enjoying the pool you can't complain about the across the street access. Wonderful! Dining is nearby, too. Coffee maker worked just fine and we (mostly) got clean towels everyday. Our sheets were changed twice. There's no mini-fridge available but there are coolers. Having a mini-fridge, even to rent, would be great. Noise-wise, we stayed on the lower floor and I was awoken by folks walking above (thud thud thud) and other folks opening and closing their drawers. So not a place for dozing / solace. But again access is wonderful and since you're within the gated part of the island you have an extra bit of security.

We had no reservations & were driving along at the end of a long day of sight-seeing. We called & were pleased that they had a room, but even more pleased when we found that the site was so lovely. Shellpoint Village is beautifully landscaped with fountains, pretty buildings, and an air of quiet & calm. The only negative comment would be that the restaurants closed at 7pm & the breakfast bar used styrofoam dishes - otherwise the room was very comfortable in a lovely setting.

Second family stay while visiting residents for a holiday. Mixed experiences. Check in is quick and simple. The rooms are basic and clean. The location is tough to beat for visiting residents. The pool is close, convenient, and warm. The appointments in the room are mixed. Towels are pretty cheap, tiny TV, new Keurig, and tiny pillows. Both visits were quiet. This latest visit was plagued with millipedes. Mostly concentrated in the tub, but also found them on the floor, ceiling, and pillow! Clearly a problem. Debating if we will come back.

We found out about this place through a Lonely Planet booklet. It was a little isolated but close to our final destination of Captiva Island. The room was clean and well appointed although a little dated. The grounds are beautiful and we saw manatees and dolphins in the surrounding waters. We ate at the Island Café but would not recommend it. The Crystal Room might have been the better option. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. While close to the water the rooms do not have a view of it.
