Customer Reviews
We have stayed at the First Colony Inn twice before and we were very pleased. It was a BIG mistake to return for our 50th Wedding Anniversary!!!! The staff was wonderful that's about it!!!! It is so sad that this once beautiful Historic Inn has been left to fall to ruin. It needs maintenance badly. The screens on our private porch wore torn and a plethora of stink bugs flew in the porch. Only one chair and a dirty, rusty, broken table so not very user friendly either. The heated towel bar didn't work and the bathroom fixtures were old and rusty. Nothing was at comfort height making it so difficult for us seniors. There is black mold on the bathroom ceiling which is a health concern!!!! Carpeting in our room was filthy! The furniture was old and worn, not charming antiques by any means. T
I selected this place from a short list my wife gave me, and it was certainly a great decision!|We stayed 4 nights during our recent trip to the Outer Banks. The location is pretty central to the entirety of the islands, and there are numerous good restaurants nearby.|As others have noted, there is no elevator so you’ve got to carry your luggage up—there are even a few stairs to climb for first floor rooms, I believe. I loved that they texted (and emailed) info to me, so I was able to go directly to my room, punch in the code (texted), and entered the room without having to deal with any front desk personnel. Our room (#24) was spacious and very comfortable, and the front desk folks were very helpful when I asked any questions/needed supplies. |The grounds are large and beautiful, and they
Read everything here before you book!!!! |Other than the wonderful staff Beth, and Lisa this place was a BIG disappointment. We wanted to stay here for our 50th Anniversary as we have stayed here before and loved it. It has a bit of historical significance too! The location is great for the beach and nearby attractions. |It is sad that this Historic building has been left to fall apart. No maintenance being done here! |The room was not very clean, smelled musty and the carpet was filthy. The screens on the very small porch were torn so bugs entered the room if you opened the porch door. There was only one small chair and a rusted broken table on the porch. The bathroom had black mold on the ceiling and fixtures were dirty and rusty. Nothing was comfort height which was so uncomfortable fo
I echo both the positive and negative reviews on this site. We have stayed at Colony Inn about three times years ago under different management. Previous stays were wonderful without any glitches though this time were there a few glitches.||Positives: Tastefully decorated rooms, manicured grounds, great location with shops and restaurants, easy access to the ocean, spotless clean large room, fast wi-fi for downloads, delicious breakfast, beautiful view of sunset on porch swing||Negatives: jacuzzi with great jets but gradually leaked out, no body lotion provided, small toilet, no ice when office closes at 5p and refrigerator poorly chills water, TV very small and took some time to set up without available staff to consult, no Afternoon Social as advertised on website was seen, steep st
We have previously stayed at this Inn and loved it however this time we weren’t as crazy about it. First of all the staff and very friendly and helpful at breakfast time, but if you need anything after like 5pm forget it. No one is around to answer any questions. They have an ice room that’s locked so you’re unable to get ice. The freezer in frig doesn’t get cold enough to even freeze ice. The swing on porch was broken and the place could use a little updating. I loved the old Nags Head charm of this place, but it definitely could use a little love. I’m hoping they fix some things, but until then we will stay somewhere else.
