Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Detroit Canton

We checked in around 11 PM and had a few issues worth noting for future guests. The room was placed directly next to the elevator, which wasn’t disclosed at booking. Floor-to-ceiling sound insulation was essentially nonexistent — normal footsteps from the room above were loud enough to keep us awake until midnight. This is a construction quality issue, not a guest behavior issue. Additionally, the fitted sheets didn’t fit the mattress properly and kept coming off throughout the night, exposing the mattress itself — gross, see pic. I don't know if this is a hotel chain issue or not but the breakfast really is bad. The hotel or the chain need to step it up. Loyal to Marriott - but I am taking Fairfield's of my list for now. I stayed at the Fairfield Inn & Suites for 1-night while visiting friends for the holidays, and it was a great choice. From check-in to check-out, every staff member we interacted with was friendly, professional, and welcoming, which really set the tone for our stay. ||I was surprised to learn that the hotel opened in 2017 as it honestly feels brand new inside - very well maintained. I booked 3 rooms for my siblings and myself, and all of us were extremely pleased. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully laid out, and the beds were especially comfortable after a long day of visiting and traveling. Pros: The hotel stay was ok. The suite was a good size; comfortable - normal worn and torn in the room but acceptable. Swimming pool was great. It was particular good for a one night stay. The person who took care of breakfast area was very nice and kind. Breakfast was also decent. Cons: Staffs were not acting in professional manner, particular for elites. No benefits whatsoever, even the staff said they did nothing for elites. I was a little disappointed. During check out, I was refused to pay using my marriott e gift card. The main reason was the gift card was not in physical format; even the manager said so. I do not understand why Marriott wants to sell gift cards if its franchisee does not accept.

Upon my arrival from a very long stressful day, guest services displayed lack of kindness. Unaware that I was an actual employee from another hotel franchise, I was given the runaround versus them attempting to better the situation that I was experiencing in their establishment . They hand you a contract to read & sign. Request cash for however much your room cost a night , while automatically holding 300$ from your bank credit/ debit card. Speak to you with the sarcasm, when asking questions or making requests regarding your room. Will slam/ slide everything you've actually HANDED to them across the counter while Barely giving any eye contact when communicating/ giving further information regarding your stay. -0 out of 10 wouldn't recommend

Upon walking into the hotel there was a very unpleasant smell, definitely not a clean or fresh smell. Once we got to our floor there was an even worse odor. When we walked into our room, it was freezing. We’ve never been to a hotel in the winter and the room was as cold as that was. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned. The floor, shower and sink area all had different types of hair on them. The toilet was pretty disgusting. The shower doors had soap scum residue drips on them. They only provided one wash cloth and one hand towel. A very unpleasant experience, to say the least.
