Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Carlsbad

The stay was fantastic. Checking on the other hand. We came a day early tried told her we wanted a room for Friday night too if they had one available which was the night we got in well actually she made us wait 20 minutes to run her audit and end of day. Finally after we waited she goes I can’t check you into your Saturday reservation because I have to run audit first. Well that’s what she literally made us wait in the lobby for. So why not. Then she told us she had to cancel our weekend reservation when we asked if we could just get a room for Friday night. Which we didn’t want. We still needed our weekend reservation. All we needed was a room for the night then we would check into the reservation the next day. Apparently that was to complicated for her to understand

Overall the stay was okay, until the hot water went out. We came back from a long day of hiking and the hot water wasn't working. I contacted the front desk and they were un-informative. I walked down to the front desk and asked if there was anyway to get a hot shower and the only solution was to go to a local truck stop and pay for a shower. We paid for a hot shower, so to suggest that we pay for the shower is absurd. They should have, at the very least, offered to pay for that hot shower at the truck stop. Upon checking out the next morning, the front desk associate said that the hotel was going to compensate the hotel guests in some way, but she didn't know how. Quality of Fairfield’s are really inconsistent and I found this one didn’t meet my expectations. There was trash left in our room from a previous guest, shower was warm at best, and didn’t have great pressure at all. I also didn’t find the beds to be comfortable and the tv in our room was not working. (Which front desk did let us know) It’s time for this hotel to get an upgrade. The fabric on the box spring is coming off, veneer is falling off counters. Some kids masterpiece in ink is still etched all over the couch in our room. The bathrooms shower curtains were moldy and the caulking is showing signs of mold as well. As for positives, there’s EV chargers, next to a Walmart and it’s quiet.

Positive: Towels. Negative: I expected better at a Mariott property. Beds hard as a rock, staff poorly trained.

I ended up spending three weeks in this hotel along with seven other coworkers. There were a few good things about it. The breakfast got a good grade B. The building hasn’t been very well maintained. Several of us had the exact same issue with the air conditioners in our rooms. They leaked condensation on the carpet and 1/2 to 1/2 of the floor was always soaked. You really didn’t want to walk around the room in bare feet or socks. Sometimes, you’d actually have the carpet make squishing sounds as you walked on it.
