Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Mason City - Clear Lake

Booked this hotel through Choice as I regularly use their hotels in USA. |Unfortunately this hotel badly lets down the brand. The room was shabby, smelly and dark. The view from the window was a scrap yard of old vehicles. Choice website advertised a laundry, there wasn’t one and the manager, who could barely speak English, gave me an incoherent explanation about getting a new machine. To his credit though, he did do my washing in the staff machine, however I specifically asked that he did not put my jeans in the dryer but he did! |I had to borrow a hair dryer from reception which then shorted out, went cold then hot again. The hot tap was nice and hot but the cold tap was also hot! The shower floor was dirty and there was paint on the floor. The walls and doors were bashed and grubby.

Akki was very helpful very nice gentleman, room are ok, a bit of update on shampoo hairdryer provided. Breakfast is alright before they have some selections like soup but not anymore 😕

Although the rates are reasonable and the continental breakfast rates well, the outward appearance of the lodge is not the least appealing. Reserved 2 rooms - which had both been confirmed as having 2 double beds, but when we arrived were only able to secure 1 room with double bed, the other with a king bed. Was not what we requested. Had issues with key cards which required return visits to the office. Also TV not working properly in Rm 225. In the room there was no information on how to contact the desk from the room on the phone, no information on working the TV or channels available.

Clean room and bed. The hot water is consistent. That's all I can say on the positive side. Don't expect more!

I loved it here! Ignore every bad review. I stayed here every weekend from January until the first week of April. The gentleman working the desk was very friendly and check in took less than a minute. My room was always clean and the bed pretty comfy. They even made sure to turn the heat on in my room on the cold days before I arrived. I never had any issues with hot water or my room smelling like smoke. If work brings me up this way again, I will absolutely stay here without a doubt. Great value for the cost!
