Econo Lodge Dalhart Hwy 54 - Hwy 287

This was just a pit stop to sleep some during a drive coming back from Colorado for thanksgiving. It was 4am and we needed some rest to continue our drive with our 1 year old. The drive ahead of us was 6 more hrs, from a trip totaling 12hrs. We basically paid $80 for only a few hrs even though the price of the stay was listed much cheaper. The stay was okay, but not something we would usually stay at. It was a bit dirty, the door wouldn't lock and the bed just had a blanket not an actual comforter. But as I said we weren't at our high standards during this time, but would had perferd more with the price paid. The overall stay was okay, we got our sleep and was back on the road not long after. Never, ever, stay here! The room was so terrible with a strong pungent smell that we could not stay there. We tried to air out the room for 20-30 minutes, but it was still too strong of a smell. The front desk was no help at all. We booked through Expedia.com and they refused to refund our money. Stay somewhere else!

Unfortunately, there is roadwork being done right in front of the the hotel on the corner. Accessing the hotel was difficult. Apparently, there is new management, so we were told, so the front desk man said. There were questions he couldn't answer. The room was clean, but time has not been kind to this hotel. The toilet was backed up upon our arrival and we had to call to get it fixed. He did come quickly and fixed it. The sheets were rough, the mattress needs replacing, but the price was right and we had a place to stay for the night.

Well bath tub spout was 1/2 in longer than shower wall, bad caulk job. The floor was filthy. I walked out of the shower and before I got to the bed, my feet were covered in dust dirt. So I don’t know if the seal under the door and the wind blew under it or people didn’t clean it other than that it was OK perfect place to hang your hat for the night. Bed was wonderful.

Darn it. I always try to find something positive and routinely stay at budget hotels. This was positively terrible on all angles with the exception of the room (what there was of it) was clean. The staff for that part takes pride in their work. Throw the chair away. Take the backup lock off the door. Remove the TV (did not turn on) and fix the electrical. I could go on. Pay the extra 40 and pick holiday inn or something, anything.
