Comfort Suites Elkhart North

Checked in on March 7th 2026. My wife and I talked it over and got the suite with the jacuzzi tub in the room. Mistake for 400 dollar on card and 100 cash deposit. The room felt like we where going into a horror movie dark and smelly. So many different things. At first we filled the jacuzzi tub to find out the jets would not come on. So I got dressed and went to the desk. She come back and said you gotta use a pen to push hard for the jets to come on. (OK not just a button) so I felt like MacGyver. Then the TV did not come on with cable. So I had two find the dishbox , unplug it , and replug it back in then boom TV. Smoke detector was hanging off the ceiling. Whole hotel smells like chlorine. Ive been here less than 24 hours everytime I go to my room, I have to return to the front desk for a new key (key is kept in my back pocket away from all electronics). They over charged our stay by one night after charging our cards 4 days before our stay (I've never had a hotel charge our card prior to our arrival) then said they are holding the extra amount they charged for a deposit. We travel quite frequently and this is one of the worst experiences I have had. Staff isn't much better than the rest of the review.

I don't know how anyone could give this place 5 stars, or even 2. It was one of the worst hotels I've ever visited. We were here with a large group. Nearly every person was locked out of their room multiple times because the keys didn't work. They tried to blame it on us - e.g., our phones were causing the problem. First, half of the population keeps cards in a case attached to their phones - so, if that's the issue, figure it out. Second, it wasn't even true - I kept them separate after they told me that. The cards just don't work. The hotel smells, breakfast "food" did not look edible, and the place is just otherwise rundown (e.g., the algae growing all over the rear exterior of the building. If you're looking for a really cheap hotel that gives you what you pay for, this is your place.

The hotel was very clean, well maintained, and in an excellent location in the midst of stores, restaurants, and other services. One cannot ask for a better location literally being off the Tollroad's exit ramp as well as being in a central location in Elkhart, IN. The hotel is in the midst of a major shopping area, and one can find anything they need within walking distance of this hotel. For those folks who need to attend events at Notre Dame and do not want to pay South Bend prices, then this hotel is only twenty miles away which is not a big deal considering that one can jump on the Tollroad and make it back to South Bend in no time. We have stayed at this hotel many times over the years and we always enjoyed our stays until the last two times. The hotel changed ownership a few years back, and dare I say, things have not changed for the best. Ruth, who works at the desk, is still there, thankfully. She is amazing and the owners are lucky to have her. In the old days, there were Notre Dame football themed decorations, cookies and a cooler full of water and soft drinks to welcome us in the lobby when we came to stay for a game. Nothing like this exists anymore. The new owners cut back on this, as well as other things. Although our room seemed clean, the elevators were dirty and smelled very musty. Hallways did not seem very clean, and our shower and sink would not drain properly. The water pressure was very weak. These i
