Capitola Venetian Hotel

I want to give this place a higher rating but the queen bed in room number 137 is in a snug alcove that requires, if staying as a couple, someone climbing over someone else to get in or out of bed. The bathroom is snug, too. The room was clean and the kitchen amazingly spacious with almost endless storage, but I could hear the 300+ pound person upstairs and the couple nextdoor in #138. Fortunately no one was cranky. I loved the narrow and beautiful European type street entrance protected from actual traffic noise, and the proximity to the beach (about 50 feet) despite no ocean view. A very lovely location and helpful staff.

My girlfriend and I have stayed here numerous times in the past several years, always at quaint but fairly modest rooms. For this trip however we stayed in Room 123. Absolutely beautiful: fireplace, unreal wraparound views, two balconies, full kitchen. Evelyn put in great effort to help resolve problems with the TV and get us settled in with other needs.

If I could give just the location, access and view from our balcony FIVE stars, I would. Also, the quaint and colorful buildings are a great photo opportunity. Each door to the rooms are uniquely carved to give the outside structure real character. I would give the outside appearance FIVE stars. Unfortunately, I must rate the hotel on many other things that affect the overall quality and comfort once inside the room. The decor is very dated (we thought it might be more renovated inside by now) and is 3 star clean. The mattress was extremely firm bordering on hard and we didn’t sleep well. The bathroom is so small that there was no place really to rest toiletries (there was a tiny shelf big enough for a couple of toothbrushes) and the shower was small. The shower products, especially

The rooms are pretty rustic, basic, and full of fun. Everything is setup for having a good time at the beach. Almost all of the views of water are a little limited so don’t be surprised.

This hotel is just 5 minutes from downtown, and a few steps from the ocean and river. We loved room 131. 2 bedrooms (one is very small), and a bed in the living room. A full kitchen including stove, fridge, and microwave. Nothing fancy, but everything you need. It also has a nice balcony looking towards the ocean. The reason I only gave the room 4 stars is the full kitchen only has 4 cups, and 4 coffee mugs. NO plates, bowls, a pot or pan, NO silverware. A kitchen is pretty useless without a few dishes.
