avid hotel Savannah South - Gateway by IHG

It's rare that I'll review something while I'm still here! I arrived really late without a reservation and I was quickly accommodated. Super clean room - exactly how it's supposed to be - unlike the new hotel next door that apparently doesn't understand what clean means. This hotel seems to be much newer and is on par with my other experiences with the Avid brand. The water pressure in the shower on the 4th floor is incredibly good! Instead of getting a shower, I got pressure washed. That was unexpected and totally awesome. I love the fact that Avid doesn't use nasty carpet in their rooms. Lots of parking however, there are a lot of large vehicles here - including mine - and these spots are super small.

Positive: Seems newish and how clean the hotel was and no weird smells. The 24 hr coffee and tea station with automated machine that grinds beans upon request. Decent breakfast with gluten free options. The front desk staff was friendly. Comfy mattress. Negative: Pillows were mushy.

Definitely not worth the price. The carpet in the hallway is so dirty it doesn’t look like it’s ever been cleaned. Room is small for the price and not clean. There are stains everywhere including blood looking stains on the floor, which is disgusting. Bed sheet is not very clean either. The whole room smells moldy. There’s no microwave in the room, only one small one in the lobby. There’s no water in the room as well, you’ll have to pay for bottled water at the front desk. There is free water by the coffee machine in the lobby but it is very hot. Not drinkable if you are thirsty. Walls are pretty thin and you can hear every movement of your neighbors. AC/Heat was noisy. Fridge was making noises too. For a hotel that’s 4/5 years old idk how it’s maintained so poorly. Overall this is too

On a road trip to Orlando, we made a pit stop in Savannah. This hotel is off the highway so you are not near the historic downtown area. If that is your focus, stay elsewhere. If your focus is a clean and nice hotel on the interstate in Savannah then this avid is for you. Check in was very easy and the room was clean and well maintained. Bed was comfy and we slept great. There are a few other hotels around and at least one more being built so this exit must be seeing growth. Right across the parking lot was a great restaurant called The Shell House. It's been in business since the 1980's and is worth a visit. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available 24/7 in the lobby. Booked for a last minute stay after a 6 hour trip. Check in was easy and staff was super friendly. Rooms were spacious with all the basic amenities and very nice modern decor. Beds and pillows were great. TV is big. There was a variety of items at breakfast and I enjoyed the complimentary coffee and hot cocoa when we came in late at night. The coffee actually tasted good. Only suggestion is for the elevators to be modified or re-programmed so trips are not interrupted midway through. Other than that this is a very nice hotel!!
