I was very excited about this evening, and, upon reflection, there was disappointment. The cost was quite significant, and, like most people, I will pay for an ‘experience’. Last night’s performance was just ok. A Luau, in my mind, is a large feast with a pig roasting in a pit. I understand that used to be the case some years ago, but, it didn’t happen here. It was convenient, but not authentic. The food was ok.. to good. It was neat. It was ok. The entertainment … I have no complaints about. Was it worth $550.00 US? Absolutely not. I would pay DOUBLE to get a full Luau experience… Pig roasting on the pit and all. The experience last evening - weak.
Food served at table vs buffet. Plenty of food, left feeling satisfied but not stuffed. The lawn area with the beach and ocean just steps away was great along with the sunset view. As it was my wife’s birthday she was presented a little extra birthday dessert decoration and a glass of champagne to mark the occasion. The show is excellent and informative regarding the evolution of Hawaii and Honolulu. Performers act as if it’s their 1st time putting on the show, not stale or jaded.
Really enjoyed our evening at the Royal Hawaiian - the show exceeded our expectations and in a beautiful setting. The performers were spectacular, very professional and was great learning about Hawaiis culture and history. The biggest let down much like all other reviews is the food was extremely poor quality and underwhelming. I would still recommend going though as the performance was worth the expense.
The night of our luau was extremely windy, and the event was moved indoors, which unfortunately took away much of the luau atmosphere. We weren’t informed of this change until we arrived, which was disappointing. The drinks were good, and we attended with a group of eight. Each person received three drink coupons. Premium drinks were extra. Opinions on the food were mixed—some enjoyed certain items, while others did not. Being indoors made the experience feel more like a high school show choir performance than a traditional luau. This luau was advertised as the only one located near a beach, which was the main reason we chose it. Because of the change in setting, it didn’t meet our expectations, and we ended up leaving early. Our takeaway: do your research, and don’t hesitate to ask loc
They did a great job with the show. Costumes were great and performers did a great job, but the food was terrible.short ribs were tough and gristly, pork tasted like seaweed. Shrimp were good but you only get 2. Chicken was best( basically just teriyaki) desserts( you get to try 3).. all bad. But, a beautiful setting and authentic music.
