A Friendly Inn At Harvard

I was in Cambridge for a conference at Harvard and got stranded there because of snow. The owner was so gracious and let me stay an extra night in the same room. The room is old and dated,, but the bed was comfy, the room was cozy and the bathroom was nice! They also have nice public areas with free k-cups, Keurigs, dishes and a community fridge (in addition to fridges in the rooms). Only a 5 minute walk from Harvard. If you don't mind staying in a place that feels a bit old, this is a great place to stay, especially at this price point.

I just finished a stay at this inn, and like you, had read a wide range of diverse reviews. Here is the thing: this obviously isn't the four seasons. Or even a Marriott. But you're not paying four seasons or Marriott prices. It's an eccentrically built, old building, so it's going to have non-standard, old rooms and dated decor, but our room, at least, was totally fine. The bed was comfortable, the bedding was crisp and clean, and there was plenty of space. All the rooms are probably different - ours had three little separate areas (we joked that it was our suite) and we were quite comfortable, even using it as a home base we frequently went back to to recharge during the days of our stay. This is a nice hotel closely located to Harvard and about 10 minutes walk from the subway station. I arrived late and was told I was lucky someone was still there and told I had been emailed a code to get in which I have never received. It was a nice quiet hotel. There are free tea and coffee making facilities down the corridor that guests can make use of which is nice. The staff were friendly with no issues. I would highly recommend the pancake place (IHOP) nearby for breakfast.

Positive: Location - really close to a great bakery/cafe, grocery store with prepared foods, & convenience store, and walking distance to areas with many restaurants, bars, & drugstores. My room was also facing the back or side of the building, so was nice & quiet. Negative: The decor is very tired & shabby (marks on the walls, etc), & lacking nice touches, so feels kind of depressing. On the other hand, everything works fine (shower, etc), so ultimately it doesn't really matter :) I would stay again.

This is a beautiful and very charming Victorian house, old and authentic. But that also applies to the small and old bathroom, worn out mattress and flat pillows, and highly un insulated doors. The owner was in fact very friendly though, so definitely a rough but authentic experience.
