Pretty cool place. Cool folks who work there and neat home made pottery. It was 17 degrees when we stayed there and the hostel was a tad cold. Otherwise it was a nice stay.
There is a reason this hostel is considered “The heart beat” of the Appalachian Trail. The guest are treated like family. Meals, beds, and free yoga classes make you feel like your on a cruise ship in the middle of the mountains. I stayed an extra night to continue to receive. Thanks to Neville, Jaws, May. and Little B. Don’t missed this place. Do t let be|said that you missed your chance to enjoy life.
I loved my stay here during my thru-hike last year. The hostel is just .5 mi from trail, so very convenient. I did not want to do yoga or eat group dinner, so I am glad no one harassed me about it either. Breakfast bread was really good, but the cheese was phenomenal. The homemade pastry was delicious as well- I think I bought 3 of them. Thanks!
This overrated hostel is too full of itself. When I called, they couldn't be bothered to call back. When I texted with a date of arrival with a friend and my dog, I was told dogs aren't welcome, without using an expensive private, unheated platform tent. Agreeing to that, so my yoga-instructing, spiritual friend who would be splitting the fare could have the reputed uplifting experience, I was then told they don't provide shuttles from Pearisburg. I drove up with my resupply on a very quiet Tuesday and the owner was too busy to intoduce herself or meet me or my dog and instructed me to leave my box on the steps for someone to take care of later. How many nos can you take? This was becoming a really irritating and expensive side-trip to a 140-mile hike. Then I was injured. I paid a fortune
This place is amazing. I expected lots of activity like campers and hikers playing music and other "things" around a campfire but I must have mistimed my visit for that sort of stuff because surely it must be that way at times. The location is unbelievable and the property is really nice. Down sides? It was extremely cold in the room and they have a bird nearby that chirps throughout the night, every second or two like a smoke alarm. The combination of the cold and the bird caused me to leave in the middle of the night and drive 6 hours home to get some rest. I'm just not tough enough I guess, but I'd like to try it again if somebody takes that bird out. Upsides? A spectacular location, cattle dogs on premises, it's dirt cheap, it's a vegan place, and the shower was very nice after a
