Walnut Flats Campground

It is wonderfully free to camp there. Water falls, hiking trails,tons of mushrooms to forage, lots of wildlife. Deer walk right throughout the campsites. There can be bears, but if you make noise and yell, they run away quickly. Never had a bad experience. Very clean. Bear proof trash containers.

Nice hiking trails for medium difficulty, plenty of water to get pictures and cool down at. Horse back riders around so be careful and courteous to them. Didn’t stay at the campsite but there were 8 spots I think and gravel area setup for tents so bring mattress or cushioning. Overall great spot.

4 campsites available with #2 being a double area with lots of room. Water pump is available close to site #1. Men and women's restroom are vault toilets and they are clean. We were there on a Friday night early May and only had one family come in as we were leaving.

Stayed here in November. Tent pads were level, tiny chip gravel. Big picnic tables. Water pump was not working. Pit toilets were clean and nice. Bear proof trash cans had bags in them and latched. Plenty of dead wood to burn. Of course some jerk had to run a generator. Metthew and Methany came in and out of the campground looking for a party spot. Noise and traffic throughout the night. Campsite had shell casings scattered around it, with discarded zyn pouches for variety. It’s a shame staying in such a place is ruined by people.

Somewhat limited on designated spaces (4 spaces total, one able to accommodate groups), this was a fantastic campground. Free still (though they are proposing implementing a $16 nightly fee, a bit much in my opinion). There is vault toilets, bearproof garbage cans, pea gravel tent pads, and a picnic table and fire pit at each site. The Fall color here was fantastic, it is within a half mile walk to connect with the AT, and it was very peaceful.
