Washington Square Hotel

Not the WSH that I have stayed in so many times before.  The doorman stood and watched me struggle with the doors when I arrived; and never offered to help me up the stairs with my luggage.  Upon checking in I inquired about the restaurant and lounge hours.  There was nothing in the WSH web page to indicate they were closed for remodeling.  When I made that comment one of the desk clerks said, “If you knew you might not have come”.  Correct; but I would have come back in the future.  Now I will never return, especially since the room I was given had a window with a view of a fallen steel I-beam and a brick wall.  Not to mention it was at the end of a hallway where the door to the stairwell slammed loudly enough to shake the room all day long while staff were constantly using it.  A very ug

Great independent hotel with lots of historical features. Rooms are nice and for NYC very little noise. The staff are exceptional and went out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. Free hot beverages available downstairs. Highly recommend checking out this hotel which is also very convenient for NYU.

Service was great, location perfect, loved the included breakfast. HOWEVER! I booked the deluxe quad room directly through the hotel's website with the expectation that it would look somewhat like the photos. I understand that rooms can vary, but the site photos were so drastically different that I asked reception to confirm I had the right room (first time I have ever done that with any hotel). The site photos for this exact room type has 3 windows, looks quite roomy and bright, and has a bathroom with two sinks. In reality, my room had 1 window, little natural light, and one small sink. I attached photos to my review so other potential guests can make an informed decision upon booking. We intend to return next time! Beautiful art-deco interior. Great location. All-around the staff was extremely accommodating, friendly & efficient. Clean room & VERY comfortable bed. The restaurant/kitchen was closed so a limited continental breakfast was served at cost, but unfortunately no granola, cereal, or variety of fresh fruit. This hotel recently came under new ownership. Hopefully they retain the same quality of staff & excellent ambiance which we experienced.

Pro - nice, friendly, helpful staff, great location, quiet area, although you're always at the mercy of your room neighbors in a hotel. Mostly clean. Although toute to breakfast room needed a good vacuum. Great fluffy towels. Good shower pressure and hot water. Decent windows and blackout curtains. Warm rooms in winter.|Cons - hotel needs updating, rooms are old and tiny. Paud a lot over the holidays for what we got. Continental breakfast was very limited and they even stopped including fruit with the ridiculous excuse that the supplier didn't bring bananas and local ones were too green. In NYC, no fruit to be found. They could easily ditch a couple of the pastries and provide one other different thing, like fruit or cheese. No restaurant for the last half a year and no hotel bar.|If y
