U Hotel Fifth Avenue

This hotel is in extremely poor condition and doesn’t even meet the standards of a basic guesthouse. It urgently needs a complete renovation. The entire property feels very old and poorly maintained. The toilet was clogged and water flooded into the room, which is completely unacceptable. The rooms are incredibly noisy — you can hear all the traffic at night, making it impossible to rest properly. The mattresses and pillows are old and very uncomfortable. There isn’t even a phone in the room to contact reception. The air conditioning unit is poorly placed and blocks access to the bed. On top of that, the water pressure in the shower is very low. Overall, a very disappointing and unpleasant experience. I would not recommend staying here.

I have stayed here many times and have always been impressed with the excellent service. From the moment you check in, you are well taken care of-whether it is arranging a cab to the airport right away or quickly resolving any room issues, the staff is always attentive and professional. The location is amazing, saw the empire state from our window. The chap on the front desk was lovely enough, and helped us get a kettle. What they don’t tell you is how noisy it is- constant noise from outside(even on the 6th floor) and the walls are super thin so you can hear all your fellow floor mates. So we barely got any good nights sleep. Also the toilet door kept on catching on the sink due to small nature of room. There was construction works without any notice from the hotel to apologise. The bedsheets appeared to be just 2 sheets placed round a duvet which came apart every night and I had a big fear that I was in contact with something that was not cleaned between guests. Overall the location was the real pull, apart from that I wouldn’t come back.

Positive: The location is great. The front desk and room service staff are great. Bed is very comfy and the room is warm in winter. Negative: The outside noise is very loud in the room. The room is very small with very little amenities. The shower water pressure is very weak but it works.

When we walked in it was a construction zone. The worst hotel lobby I’ve seen. I don’t know how this place is even 4 stars. The bathroom shower looks gross. There’s blue painters tape on the nightstand. Sloppy paint job. Please avoid.
